Soulknife: Does anybody like this class? Other classes that ???

But with an 'archer' you get to 'build.' GUys like the Hexblade, Soulknife, and MONK are so overly specialized that there's no room for anything else.

I'm going to try out a Soulknife and maybe stick a couple of them in some RPGA scenarios and see how the response is... Maybe they're better for NPC classes, or like you say, prestige classes.

I like the Soulknife, Monk and Hexblade...they are different than the mainstream and anything that is different than the mainstream is good in my book.

I've only played a monk and I like the class, but I don't like it when DMs follow the core book and decide to keep the alignment restriction and multiclass restriction...kind of ruins a few concepts one can come up with for unique monastic orders.

I think a Monk/Soulknife would be one awesome combination, and if I ever play in a Gestalt campaign, that is what I am going to make.

I agree. I've thought about multi-classing with either a monk or a psychic warrior, but I'm enjoying playing a straight-up soulknife too much.

Maybe he just rolled poorly all the time.

Probably so. My soulknife's high HP comes from utilzing the Psionic Body feat and some darn lucky rolls. Not counting the max HP at 1st level rule, he's rolled max HP for 2 other levels (I think...I know it's at least 2). Add in a 19 CON, and he can take a lot of punishment. We played the "The Speaker in Dreams" module, and while he tried to avoid toe to toe as much as he could, he was able to take a lot of punishment. Oh, and I misspoke earlier. I forgot the Ranger in our party. So the tough guy count goes to 3. Soulknife, Ranger, and Werebear. There's also a guy who plays a Fighter/Sorcerer, but he tends to hang back for support.

Prefer the Soulknife as a PrC. Not because of overspecialization (ther eis that) but it seems like they took the main ideas and stretched them over 20 levels. Maybe if there were more significant changes to justify the expansion...

As it stands, the Sword & Sorcery book 'If thoughts could Kill' adventure had reworked versions of the PrC's listed in the 3.0 psionics book. I use those.

I don't think the monk or the hexblade suck, but I see no reason to use the soulknife in my game. Way too narrow a concept to justify a core class IMO.
Agreed Psion. Hexblade at least has the capacity to be focused but still cool. Much like its cousin, Warlock. Monk doesn't suck, just needs some zip to it.

But Soulknife I felt (and still feel) should have remained a Pr-class. Wilder, Psywarrior and Psion should still be the main Psionic class.

Hyperconscious though did a great job updating both If Thoughts Could Kill and Mindscapes.

I like monks. In the hands of a tactically skilled player (e.g., me ;)) they can be quite scary.

Granted, they don't have the sheer killing power of some other classes but they have other advantages. Also, I like having no bad saves, great mobility and no great dependence on weapons or armor.

As for the Soulknife... I kinda like the class but I possibly might have liked it even better if it had remained a prestige class.

My biggest beef with the soulknife is that it doesn't multiclass well. Most of your class abilities are built around your soulknife, and if you multiclass out, it stops improving. Which means you're left using your soulknife abilities with a second-rate weapon, or you use a good weapon and forget about most of your soulknife abilities.

I think it multiclasses into Fighter pretty well. Especially since you're trading up in the BAB.
