Southern California GenCon? Definite maybe!

TSR used to host "Winter Fantasy" in Wisconsin, and promoted it as a mini-GenCon for the wintertime. I think it would be wonderful to have a GenCon-sponsored winter convention in California (I would prefer Bay Area, so I could stay with friends, but SoCal is good, too).

And it makes a heck of a lot more sense to do it someplace where you wouldn't have to shovel snow to get there. :)

Winter in San Diego

That's a perfect idea! Maybe a GenConSoCal in February or March to balance out the other half of the year... Keep in mid that the water can still be pretty chilly, but at least you don't have ice and snow! Weather in San Diego can be around the 60's (if not warmer) but it's still better than fighting snowdrifts...

I emailed GenCon with my input, and got a very pleasant response back from Lindsay Ohman. Ms. (?) Ohman said that they're tentatively looking "to hold it around November - the off-peak convention season". Sounds good to me!

Everyone is forgetting the "other" bonus to GenCon So-Cal...

You can make it a family outing... send the wife & kids to Disneyland (or Knott's Berry Farm or Six Flags Magic Mountain - all well within driving distance of LA, Anaheim, or San Diego though Magic Mountain is a stretch from SD). :)

Quality time with the family to appease the wife AND get to go to GenCon. What could be better?

I'm all for a GenCon San Diego; if I don't have to drive any farther than downtown (I'm in UTC), I might actually show up at a convention sooner or later...

Bite your tongue! :)
I've been battling snow drifts my entire life, and I like the snow.

Sounds like someone, I won't mention names (KP), needs some professional help. ;)

Wahoo! GenCon Matt's House! Can't wait.

I agree that it should be in the winter/spring for two reasons.

1) The Con Season happens over the summer and adding another big con to that grind would be bad.

2) People *like* coming to SoCal in the winter 'cause 76 degrees and sunny beats 8 inches of snow.

'Course, we're supposed to get El Nino again this year, which means lotsa rain. Hm..
