Sovereign Press to produce Dragonlance

No, a D20 system can do whatever they want with the magic system. Look at Sov Stone... it's D20, not just OGL, and has a totaly new magic system (Albiet with most of the old spells reworked to fit in it)

I'd have to disagree with you. I just reread both the STL and the Guide and nowhere does it say you can't monkey around with the magic system. You can do whatever the hell you want with it.

First of all: Tsyr, I think he meant 3E, using the proper term for the game (D&D).

No I meant any edition. THat hardcover was not what I would call a 'full setting release' if I remember it right, it was very lacking in details.

Mostly Dragonlance had modules and non gaming products and then finally it's own RPG.

A true d20 license CAN completely scrap the magic system. Like they did for the Sovereign Stone book.

d20 is a license to use a logo and a restriction preventing rules on character design and development. It's not much more than that.

OGL is a license to use an RPG system, specificly the SRD. And you can use however much of it you desire or change any portion of it you wish.

While I probably wont play in the Dragonlance world I am very happy to see this coming. I hope they come up with a good magic system to capture the feel of the novels.

Woohoo!

I'll definitely buy it. Dragonlance was my first "real" campaign setting, and even though I haven't played it in over a decade, I would buy it for old times sakes at least.

I read in an interview that Weis and Hickman plan on trying to un-!@#$ everything that TSR did in terms of the Chaos Wars and basically everything that was done after they wereno longer in control (this is *my* interpretation from reading between the lines of an on-line chat with them both).

I think that they're great world builders (I liked the Death Gate Cycle and the Star of the Guardians series), so I'll give anything that they do a chance.

First I would like to say that I think this is Fantastic news. Dragonlance was always one of my favorite setting and the original 14 modules are probably the best series ever put out by TSR.

Now to "Psion's" comment that better settings could have been chosen.Yes that's possible but Margaret Weis isn't going to interested in doing them after all Dragonlance is her Baby not Birthright or Planescape.

I also believe that Ms.Weis has a certain influence with WoTC after all if they want more best selling Dragonlance novels from her it won't hurt them to let her use something they are not.

Finally the Boxed set Tales of the lance is a Setting sourcebook it just came out way to late to be worthwhile. The Dragonlance Adventures Hardcover was more of a information sourcebook meant to capitalize on the world's popularity.

It's a WONDERFUL news!!!

The right authors for a wonderful setting. I was waiting for it for months.

But now I have a question:

Does this mean the END of Sovereign Stone?

I hope not!

NOPE! *grins crookedly* I have it on very good authority that Sovereign Stone will continue going strong, and for now I'll just leave it at that. :D

Oh, noooooo....

Tell me it isn't true.

::sigh::

I had really hoped that the race of Children, um, I mean, "Kender" would fade into the mists of obscurity, gone and forgotten.

Oh, well. I guess it's too much to ask that in this idiotic world, that the marketplace of ideas would actually do its job and cull out the weak and the idiotic.
