Spare the rod and spoil the wand

I wasn't trying to fight rules with rules. I was trying to introduce a situation where the tactic is suboptimal. This is to counterbalance the situations where the tactic is awesome. This is more fun than simply saying 'No.'
A DM needs to be able to say 'no' sometimes.

This 'tactic' removes minions as an option from the DM's encounter design palette. IMHO minions are kinda neat, and I don't want anything to exist which renders them irrelevant.

Your solution stinks of GOTCHA gaming, which I dislike.

To each his own, I guess.
