Special damage and DR

All right...

I hit an evil critter with a flaming dagger. He has DR 15 silver. The 4 points from the dagger itself are ignored, but I still inflict 1d6 fire damage, if he doesn't have fire res.

Right ?

And if I hit the critter with a holy dagger, he still ignores the 1d4 from the dagger, but I inflict 2d6 holy damage.

Right ?

Am I right ?

That is correct. Energy damage is handled separately from physical damage. Damage Reduction does not reduce energy damage in any way. Similarly, Energy Resistance does not reduce physical damage in any way.

Really? Why did I think that special effects didn't go through unless some actual damage got through? Frank (or anyone), if you could quote the rule from the SRD, that would be great.

Here you go.

Whenever damage reduction completely negates the damage from an attack, it also negates most special effects that accompany the attack, such as injury type poison, a monk’s stunning, and injury type disease. Damage reduction does not negate touch attacks, energy damage dealt along with an attack, or energy drains. Nor does it affect poisons or diseases delivered by inhalation, ingestion, or contact.
