Evocation: If I want to play a Blaster I will make a Psion or Wilder... if those arent' allowed I will make a Warmage... or if I must, a Sorc (although I'd probably revise my character concept well before falling back to the Sorc).

Necromancy: Its weak, and is thus expendable. I miss out on a few powerful high level spells (Horrid Wilting, for example) and the almighty strength-draining Ray... but meh. If I want to make a "Necromancer" I'd be rolling either a Deathmaster (DCv1) or a Cleric.

Edit: Those of ya dumping Enchantment hurt my inner child. :p

The last conjurer I played had Illusion and Enchantment as banned schools. Sure, it hurt to lose basically all Will save based spells, but I love, love, love, LOVE necromancy to death, and couldn't really justify ditching any other schools. In hindsight, I didn't have a whole lot of Transmutation spells (when making the character, I forgot Teleport was Conjuration, now), so I probably could have ditched that school. Though now that I think more about it, Fly saved our butts more than once, so I guess I couldn't have ditched it. <shrug>

I love, love, love, LOVE necromancy to death

That's funny!

While it greatly depends upon PC concept, the two I tend to dump the most are Enchantment and Abjuration...though usually not on the same PC. 90% of the time, I'll partner one of those with one of Conjuration, Evocation, or Necromancy.

I find it amazing people give up necromancy. How does your wizard survive without False Life and Ray of Enfeeblement and Enervation?

I voted Evocation and Enchantment. I really like some enchantment spells (like Heroism, extended preferably), and there are some fine evocation spells (but they can be duplicated by shadow evocation and some conjuations).

Abjuration is okay, but I do not find it to be nearly as great as many people seem to find it.

I voted for the generalist wizard, because in 3(.5)e I specialist wizards are bland when compared to their generalist cousins. It's a bad trade-off, losing entire two schools for an extra spell per day per level and a small Spellcraft bonus, especially since 3.5 redesigned schools so that every school gest a couple of useful spells.

However, if I had to pick, Necromancy would probably be the first to go (since it has a relatively small number of spells, most of which are offensive in some way, which is covered by evocation and conjuration), followed by either illusion or enchantment (but probably the latter, since I'm a fan of illusion; unfortunately both of these schools tend to be relatively useless at higher levels).

Necromancy and Illusion for me.

I find that Necromancy's a very small school so I'm not missing much. And Illusion... well, I've always hated illusion spells from a DM standpoint, so I'd never use them as a player. ;)

I usually prefer not to specialize, but when I do, I usually end up dropping enchantment and necromancy. It's not that I dislike those schools, but rather the painful realisation that they are the ones I can most afford to lose. Why? Well enchantment has alot of problems. Too many things are immune to it, especially at high levels. And while necromancy has alot of useful effects, most are offensive or give you minions, and I can do just fine with Conjuration and Evocation to fill those roles. Under no circumstances would I ever consider dropping Abjuration. It is an absolute necessity.
