I really like the new specialist wizard base classes like the Warmage and Beguiler. More of those please :D
Or folding it into the mage's "always-on" power - spells are universal, as before, and the "I can always do something useful"-thing should be defined by your specialization... without banning schools. That way, specialization has an impact on a character, make him different from other wizards, without hurting. And it's more interesting than extra spell slot and +2 on Spellcraft. Bleh.

It would mean, that abjures can always protect, evokers always blast... and so on, I think you get the gist.

That would be very cool, too. But the magic schools would need a lot of work. What would a transmuter do ? BTW, I hope they nerf the pseudo-evocation conjuration school. No more orbs that have no SR and the like. Conjuration should be about calling objects and creatures, not magical effects.

I would be happy if all wizards were specialists. I find it more flavourful that way and it makes things more interesting even if there are more wizards in the party.

Well, I'd several ideas:

- shift around the ground (make it softer/harder, raise small walls, dig small holes).
- small ability to become weightless, then levitating, then flying
- mage hand, slowly increasing to telekinesis

And I'm sure, real developers, who get their food based on that, would come up with even better stuff!

Cheers, LT.
