Speilberg looking to do Tripods

I heard about this too - sounds cool, if done well. I remember when I read that as a kid in school. The first book. Right away I figured out the Tripods had to have beings inside them - I said as much to the teacher who just smiled and said to read on and see.

After that, I just had to see what happened - I don't think the school went beyond the first book. So I went out and bought the other two books and read them both. Ah, the memories.

Cool! I was hoping somebody would do a rather nifty period War of the Worlds, but I guess this'll work. ;)

There was a project to do a "modern" WotW with the primary storyline revolving around Seattle (ugh). The project was killed partly because of 9/11. There was talk of reviving it in a manner more "true" to the source material, but there are rumours that Spielberg's Tripods project may have signalled the death knell for WotW in the near future.

FWIW give me WoTW over Tripods ANY day!

Funny you should mention this, since just last night I heard that Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are teaming up to actually do a War of the Worlds film. This was reported on the G-Block on Fox News, but I don't know how reliable the info is.

EDIT: Here's a link that seems to confirm it.

I'd like to see that as well, though Tripods would be more interesting due to the youth-nostalgia factor, along with the fact that I'd never seen a movie on it before. I did see the original WotW. (And that same link says Indiana Jones 4 is on hold...)
