Spell Analysis: Mace of Odo (MoF)

Don't have access to my books but if it is 3rd level then it may be a little overpowered.

I have only seen it used by 12-15th level clerics so far. mainly becuase at the level you get it healing is more important as well as a few other spells at higher level I guess that level of healing isn't needed so youcan use Mace instead.
And yes it is a one shot spell for damage.

Here are some answers off the top of my head. I have used the spell occasionally in 3e. My cleric of helm used to use it a lot when I used to play living city because it was one of the few ways to protect against certain spells.

Answer 1: If I remember correctly there is no save. You need to make a hit roll.

Answer 2: The spell doesn't specifically say. I always took it to mean that it is a free action to absorb the spell.

I would say that you can't absorb dispel magic. If i remember correctly, the Mace can only absorb targeted spells. Then again, I suppose it could turn a targeted dispel magic.

Answer 3: The Mace of Odo is a spell not a weapon. Str bonuses do not apply to damage nor does DR apply. I think SR does apply though.

The spell is a bit powerful for 3rd level, but not too much after all it takes a full round to cast and it requires a melee touch attack to use it. The spell also discharges when you absorb a spell or when you successfully strike a target.
