spell casting for real - which one?

Eh, Mordekainen's Magnificant Mansion!

Spells after that for me would include Dominate Monster, Greater Scrying or Clairvoyance/audience, Summon Monster line (Gate is a bit risky ;)), Simulacrum, Heal, Regenerate, in that order would also be nice.

Alter self allows you to disguise yourself as someone else almost infallibly, allows you to grow wings and fly, and allows you to grow gills and go swimmin'. Oh, and you can grow extra limbs and alter your weight. Sure, it's only 10 minutes per level, but you can have a lot of fun in that time. That's always going to be a fun spell.

Realistically, I'd probably go for teleportation circle and permanency. That would probably make me a mint in the right line of business. "Why, yes. Thanks to my amazing global network of teleporters, I can ship anything you want anywhere you want in ten seconds." It also gives me a reason to hire a small mercenary army to guard the portals, and I've always wanted my own mercenary army.

Oh, and prestidigitation is always going to be useful...

Final thought: I've always wanted to walk into the middle of some stupid Third World religious conflict looking like a hideous, twelve-foot demon, laughing and chortling, "Good work! All of you, keep it up!" With the right illusions, I wouldn't even have to be there. (Or I could, standing off at the side under a wall of force.) In fact, with programmed image I wouldn't even need a nuke-proof umbrella... (for such it is).

It would depend.

If I was the only one able to cast magic, I would probably go with spells that would be useful for exploring:

Improved Invisibility
Fly
Water Breathing
Polymorph Self
Protection from Elements
Rope Trick
(gotta rest in a peaceful place, away from crowds)

However, seeing how many nasty, people are running around bandying about charms, lightning bolts, and all the Demons being gated in, I'd definitely have to go

Mind Blank
Mordenkainen's Disjunction
Stoneskin
Elemental Immunity
Time Stop
Teleport without Error
Plane Shift
Heal
Contingency
Miracle
Spell Resistance
Spell Turning
And quite a few others whose name eludes me right now...

So I can cast a spell now? Create Undead. After this I can create ghouls, and the ghouls kill people creating more ghouls until the all the humans die. The world will be a better place.

My wife keeps saying she wants Prestidigitation. Thousands of uses around the home and office! Clean the litter boxes, do the dishes, organize the paperwork...

She has a point. Sure, fireball would be nice for when MUNI is overcrowded, but then the cops show up.

Shape Change would be good, because you could shapechange into a creature which has a spell-like abilitiy which mimics any other spell. Between all the D20 monster books out there, the odds are good ANY spell is possessed as a spell-like ability by SOMETHING.

And turning into a Great Wyrm would *also* solve my MUNI problems.

It's hard to go past the versatility of Miracle. Wish is an alternative, but I don't fancy all the conflict that would be necessary to feed it with experience points.

The only rival in my mind is True Resurrection. One TR per day at the price of a modest funeral is all I need. And I could do a lot better than the price of a modest funeral, what with life insurance costing the companies what it does.

Either of those spells could make you rich beyond the dreams of avarice, with hordes of fanatical devotees. Once you have a raft of money and access to modern technology (not to mention hordes of fanatical devotees) a lot of other spells begin to look a bit ho-hum.

Charm Person? Ten thousand dollars will get you a lot of progress in that direction.

Prestidigitation? I'll hire supermodels to do my housework, thank you.

Lightning Bolt? I'd rather have a battalion of bodyguards with Steyrs &c.

If I want to go somewhere I'll take my private 747.

And if I want an explosion I'll have one of my fanatics make a tonne of ANFO.

Regards,

Agback

And, of course, you could always go into the d20 business and publish something that does have the ability if you couldn't find one otherwise... :)

I just want to few spells to help me with my fencing... True Strike, Cat's Grace, Haste & Expeditious Retreat would be a nice start...

anything on top of that would be a bonus... but I guess if I could only ever have one spell it would have to be Fly...

They've also been known to get you crucified.
