Do I understand this spell right?

It can be used exactly like Phantom Steed (just with multiple mounts and slightly more hit points), i.e. speed is 20 ft. per caster level and it gains the special modes of movement according to your caster level and so on, and if you happen to be on the Ethereal Plane, you can use the last paragraph telling you how these mounts move there.

Is that what it does?

No, not really. Just wondering, whether the spell actually can be used on the Material Plane as Mass Phantom Steed, basically, or only on the Ethereal Plane.

I think it works on the Material Plane for sure.

Maybe it will not work on planes not connected nor co-existent with ethereal plane, as the spell is using ether. But it will be each DM's call I guess.
