Spell Converter?

I'm looking for an item that will convert a spell (be it cast from a slot or a spell trigger/completion item) to a single spell of the same level. Like a wand without charges you could power either yourself or with another wand.

I know I've seen things like this, but can't put my finger on where... Anyone know?

Are you talking about keyed items? They're from one of the Books of Eldricht Might from Malhavoc Press, and allow you to convert any spell into a specific spell as determined by the keyed item. Another product to look at that might be what you're after is Loot 4 Less II from IDA. That contains something similar.

Either way, I'm unsure as to what exactly you're referring to. Perhaps an example?

Hm. For some reason I thought you could convert wand charges with it, too. I wonder how much more valuable an keyed item would be if you could power it from scrolls, staves & wands. It'd sure be handy for using up wands with less desireable spells...

Personally I think the keyed items from Malhavoc were to cheap. It was something like 100 gp per spell level squared. 500 gp is a much better base for these items.

I'd tend to agree. With the added benefit of being able to be powered by spell items, I'd say more like 750. Same price as a wand of the same level. I'll pitch the idea to my DM and see what he thinks, in addition to tossing the item up on a couple forums (fori?) at that price to get other opinions.


edit: ooooh, and with the added requirement that, like wands, one has to have the keyed spell on one's spell list. more fitting, considering the addition of the wand/scroll/staff activation method.
