D&D 5E Spell & Crossbones

Katerina bides her time patiently, ignoring all the other minor threats. She moves into a shadowy area between the areas that the broken windows illuminate with the moonlight. She aims her second gun at the door, her arm steady as she waits for the door to open and her enemy to be revealed. Once she sees him silhouetted in the moonlight, she will shoot him.

OOC: Katerina uses her bonus action to Hide (Cunning Action). Then she readies an action to fire at D'avard as soon as the door opens and he is revealed. Because he should not know her exact location she should have Advantage on the roll, allowing her to sneak attack (Allies within 5' of the door so sneak attack should work even if he sees her). Obviously adjust my numbers if that is incorrect.

Attack on D'avard with Advantage with her Pistol (1d20+6=12, 1d20+6=25)

Damage (1d10+2d6=10)

Stealth (Hide) (1d20+6=17)

OOC: I made a mistake! D'avard as a lycanthrope has immunity (not resistance) to non-magical non-silvered weapons. I'm not going to revise anything, but Katerina's shot does no damage. Since she didn't see Barrington's shot outside there wouldn't be any reason for her not to at least try shooting D'avard. But now all your characters know that he is immune.

Eventually the door can withstand no more punishment, and D'avard kicks it clean off its hinges with a savage snarl, flying several feet into the house before collapsing. Within the doorway stands a seven foot tall horror that only vaguely resembles the corsair from before; his chest hair has turned into a scarf of matted fur akin to a sea lion's, his skin leathery like an eel, his hands into sharpened claws, and his face has twisted into a leering eel-wolf hybrid.

No sooner has he entered than eerie pale blue faerie fire springs up about him, clinging to his skin like fireflies (advantage to attack D'avard). Teague, who was closest to the door, is also caught in the glow of dim light and he is likewise covered in the fell blue glow which makes the superstitious old salt grumble under his breath.

Stepping into the house, D'avard slips on the ball bearings left by Katerina, crashing against the busted down door and scrambling to his feet. Katerina's shot hits him squarely in the chest as he rises, but it barely seems to faze him. Now that you can see D'avard up close in better light, it's clear that du Tourbillon's warning that normal weapons would be of no use was well made.

With a snarl, he launches himself at Teague, battering the old sailor back and leaving a vicious wound on his chest (6 damage). This clears a path for him to reach Old Zef. Despite the mage armor springing into place, D'avard's teeth dig into the dwarf's shoulder and neck, sure to add to Old Zef's patchwork of existing scars (7 damage, and see below). With his bite D'avard also attempts to grapple Old Zef and drag him thru the archway of the house outside.

OOC: Teague DC 14 save vs. faerie fire friendly fire 1d20+1=6 fails

D'avard DC 14  save vs. faerie fire (disadvantage from hex1d20+2=21, 1d20+2=13 fails

D'avard DC 10 Dex save vs. ball bearings (disadvantage from hex ) 1d20+2=7, 1d20+2=9 fails and falls prone, spending 15' move to rise

D'avard claws at Teague (advantage from faerie fire1d20+4=22, 1d20+4=11 hitting for 6 damage (1d8+2 average) and knocks him back 5 feet.

D'avard moves 5' toward Old Zef.

D'avard bites Old Zef 1d20+4=19 hitting for 7 damage (2d4+2 average), and Old Zef must make a DC 12 Constitution save or be cursed with Seawolf lycanthropy.
Also, he initiates a grapple with the bite 1d20+2=11 and Old Zef must make a DC 11 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to escape being dragged.

If D'avard's grapple succeeds, he moves 5' (spending 10' move cause grappling) back to doorway with Old Zef as a human (er, dwarven)  shield. This provokes an attack of opportunity from Caillou.

So no grapple, not that a 4 foot dwarf is much cover for a seven foot Seawolf ;)
[/sblock]

Old Zef wrenches his shoulder out of D'avard's mouth. While there is pain, the blood is flowing freely, preventing the Seawolf's vile saliva from infecting the wound.

As the great pirate enters the house, Barrington realizes that he may not be of use much longer. The ugly pirate is also right at the cabin door, however, and so he levels the rifle and takes another shot.

[[1d20+5=8]]

The shot misses, winging the doorframe and causing a splinter to fly off.

Barrington's given his position away at this point, and moves, circling around with the rifle to a different position. He's looking for some kind of cover.

Caillou's eyes widened. The corner of his beak might have twitched slightly in disgust, but a bird's expression was always difficult to read. He looked to Teague, but the old man, is already staggering back, cursing fluently and going for the boathook he has stowed somewhere in the house, the better to fend the sea wolf off. Among the many tales the old salt had to tell while deep in his cups were hoary ghost stories of such foul beasts of these haunted waters.

The Tengu King of Nassau freed the long, intricate scrimshaw needle from the folds of his coat, darted forward with a prayer at the tip of his tongue to the Baron La Croix, and stabbed the bone point at the exposed back of the transformed D'avard.

OOC: Bone needle (dagger) against D'avard - melee attack +5 vs AC, with advantage for flanking = [roll0] [roll1], [roll2] piercing damage, +[roll3] necrotic damage from hex.

If the attack hits, I'll Channel Divinity for Touch of Death, for 13 more necrotic damage. If D'avard dies from this damage, Caillou will move back into cover and hide: Dexterity (Stealth) check to hide from the other attackers.

OOC: I still can't make a login for Invisible Castle. Here are those rolls again, since they don't seem to have come through in my last post:

"No, monsieur D'avard," Nia says, narrowing her eyes. "You will not escape so easily as that." She passed her hand over her staff, "Come to me, gods of devastation. I will feed your hunger this night." Her staff trembled in her hand, and blood leaked from between the wood grains. (Shillelagh)

The witch then stepped forward, and there was a splash of water that dashed over the floorboards, as if her body had suddenly dissolved into the liquid. Or had it been that all along? (Misty Step)

Then, from behind the seawolf, the whistle of a staff being swung! (attack!)

([roll0] to hit (advantage roll [roll1]) for [roll2] damage; the staff is considered magical while under the cantrip's effects)

Just as it seems like Caillou is poised to stab the deadly scrimshaw needle into D'avard's spine, he notices a tattoo on the seawolf's back of a gothic letter O, within which is a seawolf's open maw swallowing a ship. Why should it send a shiver down the Tengu King's spine? Perhaps a warning from one of the Guede? Just then, as Caillou prepares to stab, the red-bearded pirate hurtles himself at Caillou thru the broken doorway in a full-on tackle. Caillou's window of opportunity is lost as the pirate rolls over Caillou's cloaked back, fingers failing to grasp Caillou's oily feathery face, the pirate landing with a groan on his side against the smashed door on the floor.

D'avard's beady black eyes swivel to connect with Caillou's, a foul toothy grin forming. "You must be the Tengu King. I'd expected you to be an old ma-- Argh!"

Nia reappears from the magic mist and slams her empowered staff into the seawolf's back, rewarded by the sound of ribs cracking; at last D'avard is slowing down from the punishment you've heaped on him. The seawolf appears to be on his last legs.

Barrington has taken cover behind a thick gnarled tree stump on the hill not far from the unconscious pirate. The Spanish rifleman desperately fires his pistol up at Barrington's new position, the shot absorbed by the tree stump, then runs for the palm trees where he joins the arm-in-sling pirate who is frantically reloading. Tearing the pistol from the pirate's hands, the rifleman fires up at Barrington again, the shot ricocheting off a tree behind the Englishman. "To hells with you and to hells with this," curses the arm-in-sling pirate. "I've fought this man once before. He'll put a bullet between your eyes. I know better than to push my luck!" With that, the arm-in-sling pirate dashes thru the tangle of jungle trees in retreat.

The bandana pirate, finishing reloading his musket, fires up at Barrington as well, the shot absorbed by the tree stump, wood splinters flying over Barrington's head. Dropping back down, the bandana pirate hides in the tall grass (Perception DC 18).

The one-eyed pirate attacks Old Zef thru the window with his hand axe, looping the hook of the axe around Old Zef's neck and yanking, smashing the dwarf's head into the window ledge (4 damage). Looking for an opening that involves minimum risk, the gangly pirate slams his hand axe down on Old Zef's chest (4 damage) while the dwarf is momentarily pinned. Thankfully the mage armor causes the axe to twist at the last second, hitting him with the flat of the blade rather than the edge, but it still packs a wallop!

The ugly pirate wildly attacks Nia Steeleyes thru the door with his hand axe, missing but giving himself enough space so that he can slip by Nia. Glaring at Katerina, he points his axe as he begins to advance toward her. "There's the one who shot me!"

OOC:
Spanish Rifleman shoots at Barrington (disadvantage range, +2 AC cover) 1d20+4=21, 1d20+4=15 misses, then shoots again (Multiattack) 1d20+4=10, 1d20+4=5 misses.

Arm-in-sling Pirate uses his action to reload, then moves 15' thru difficult terrain (30' move), and Dashes again as a bonus action for another 15' thru difficult terrain (30' move).

Bandana Pirate shoots at Barrington (+2 AC cover) 1d20+4=9 misses, then Hides as bonus action Stealth 1d20+2=18

One-eyed Pirate attacks Old Zef 1d20+3=14 hits for 4 damage (1d6+1 average).

Gangly Pirate attacks Old Zef 1d20+3=22 hits for 4 damage (1d6+1 average), then he Disengages as bonus action.

Ugly Pirate attacks Nia 1d20+3=12 misses, then he Disengages as bonus action.

Red-bearded Pirate attacks Caillou with grapple 1d20+1=3, and I'm assuming that Caillou succeeds his DC 3 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to avoid being grappled since his Dex modifier is +3.
