D&D 5E Spell & Crossbones

Kid widened his eyes at Nia's comment. "But I jess run inter two scallywags wot was claimin' they're crewin' tha Seawolf. Scary, there were. One with gangly arms, one a'which were burnt. The other big, brutish. The brutish one had 'is arm ina sling." Kid thought for a moment. "They had a ferrum wit' 'em. Soft fur, it had. But sharp li'l fangy things." Kid sucked on his bitten hand reflexively. "Saw their ink--wolf bitin' down on an anchor, or I'm a lyin' monkey's patoot. No 'fence, Bella. An' then there was this bear, and then they shut up real quick, and then me an' 'Tien hauled tail back ter the 'Lonial."

Kid paused to draw breath. He looked at Barrington, confused. "Seawolf's legend, right Jim? Tain't no real thing?"

Katerina eyed Barrington then shrugged. "I do not claim you are an enemy, you are here with me, are you not? Yet I am uncertain how much of a friend you are. Of course I am distrustful! You will gain my trust once you've earned it, just like anyone else. I am sure you do not trust me at this very point in time either." She took another sip from her silver flask. "It was not clear to me that you met Wallace just now, only that you met him once previously. So yes, I was surprised to hear it was recent, and considering he is our current competition it gave me pause. We will get to titles and constitutions and terms soon, when we all have quiet time together to discuss. It would be appropriate to do this once we have found a ship and crew, so they all can at least give their opinions on shares."

She returned to looking at Etienne and Kid. "We were attacked by a wolfish creature and crew from the legendary ship the Seawolf and while we killed many, we kept their leader so we could question him. He is not fully a wolf, yet not fully a man. Our sponsor, du Tourbillon, would like a word or two with him, so we must transfer him tonight. He is large, and powerful, and dangerous so we must use caution."

She looked to Nia as she wondered out loud. "I wonder perhaps if the crew was looking for their missing leader?" She shook her head, her long dark hair swinging around in the warm breeze. "Nevermind that, we have things to do. Barrington, if you are still with us, please take Kid and secure our cannons." She handed him the bag with the 400gp. "If this does not prove I trust you at least somewhat, I do not know what will. Be safe at your task."

"Nia and Etienne, we need to move D'avard. We also need to secure the ship but I think we should all be together for that? Nia? Would more of us with you be better, or not? Then at some point someone, perhaps all of us, needs to fill our crew. So if there is any down time, feel free to look for competent crew members. There were some French looking for work and also some Old Salts who used to work on the ship we're about to... commandeer. Eventually we'll need to get supplies too but we need a ship first," Kat grinned. "I can not WAIT, I'm going to get so stinkin drunk I sleep for days!"

OOC: I think we should mostly stick together for the moment (with the exception of Kid and Barrington)- QL we can play out or speed up whichever part you wish. Davard first. :)

I'm waiting for indications for the safe house where Zef and Caillou guard D'Avard... Maybe chains of silver may help ? Is it common knowledge silver it a wolfbane ?

There isn't one laundress in Nassau, rather it's a whole little district filled with steaming buckets, strange odors, and chatting women. Katerina knows to skirt around from the west to avoid drawing attention; only thing worse that a pirate's wagging tongue is a nosy laundress. Few folks would realize the angled double cellar door leads down into one of the oldest bolthole's in Nassau's history, once used by Blackheart, and other pirates before him.

Marm, a weathered laundress with ruddy cheeks a bun of tangled grey hair, is out front beating some rugs. A beanpole thin old man with a worn sailor's cap, her husband Ebeneezer, is working on repairing a front step. Pausing from their work, they give quiet nods to your company. It's late afternoon, but the sun is still in the sky, and they know well enough not to draw undue attention to Katerina.

Down the creaking wooden steps you descend into the musty cellar, where a lone lantern provides light. Old Zef, a dwarven old salt, sits on a stool across from a hulking wounded pirate bound to a chair with thick hempen rope. The pirate has a shaved head, an almost wolfish perpetual sneer on his lips, and his body is covered in tattoos, the most noticeable of which covers his entire back revealing a huge seawolf leaping out of the sea with a ship in its maw. This is D'avard, the prisoner to which Katerina has alluded.

"So what's it going to be, dwarf?" D'avard grimaces.

OOC: Had to dig up some NPC names from way back in the thread Queenie! Since it has been a while, and since peterka99 is unfamiliar with the safehouse scene, I tried to do a bit of a recap.

I wouldn't say it's COMMON knowledge that silver is effective against lycanthropes, but your characters are 4th level, Nia Steeleyes would very likely know that, and possibly Etienne if he ran across any lycanthropes in the North American frontier.

Fenris I'm assuming you remember the results of your interrogation of D'avard, but if your memory needs jogging, let me know and I can once again dig back into our game's past.

OOC: Quickleaf. No I am good. ;)

Old Zef stands up as the door opens, stretching his tired joints. He gives Katerina a raise eyebrow as people he does not know come in, but a subtle gesture from Kat lets him know it is fine.

"Wouldn't ye like to know now thar Seawolf." grins the old dwarf back.

"We been havin' a right nice chat in here. I figured I'd wait until ye got back a'fore we figured out his fate. So what say ye young'in? I would prefer not to kill him outright, or at least without much pain"

There were some French looking for work and also some Old Salts who used to work on the ship we're about to... commandeer. "At least tree should be wit D'avard at all times," Nia opines. "Armed wit magic or silver, or bot of dem. I ken call on magic aimed directly at his heart, so I should be one of de ones watchin' him. As for gettin' more crew, we need to, but I'm a poor choice."

She grins. "Sailors don't follow a witch onto a ship. Dey like windcallin' and such, but not too many ken look at dese old eyes and tink 'I'd like to be trapped wit dis one on a ship for a few months wit no way out.' If it was dat simple, I'd have had a crew of my own by now."

Something else gets Nia's attention and she's quick to remind Kat, "Remember...D'avard is not dair leader. He led dis attack, but de captain of de Seawolf is another ting entire. Our captive is high enough in de crew to be...gifted...de curse, perhaps even an officer, but dere are worse tings den him watchin' from de decks."

Once they were with Zef and D'avard she gives the dwarf a nod and checks the Wolf's bonds immediately.

"We'll not be killin' him tonight, it seems. More den us want a word wit dis one."

Etienne checks in his inventory booklet if he brought some fancy silver sewing or tailor wiring in his warehouse to reinforce the rope (used for ribbons). Cautiousness is better than sorrow...

"Si, let's not take any chances, we all go together. Then we'll continue what we have to do." She stood over the captive, pondering momentarily. "Do we have a way to keep him quiet?"

OOC: Kat will wait to see if anyone has options for keeping him quiet. If not, she'll knock him out with the pommel of her sword and feign he's drunk as they bring him to du Tourbillon.
