Spelljammer Meets Star wars

But if you watch the movies again you'll see everyone swinging HARD in multiple cases. One definite case of strength being used is Qui-Gon burning through the Trade Federation bulkhead. Look at him when he pushes the blade through...it takes serious effort/strength. And there's also the final duel between Luke and Vader. Watch the last part where Luke is attacking like crazy, hitting harder each time and pushing Vader down. That's definitely strength.

Good point.

It's not that I'm saying that strength isn't involved, but when it comes to hitting flesh, there'd not be much resistance. If the opponent is wearing metal armor, one way you could do it is factor you strength bonus on the to hit and apply the dex bonus to damage. Who knows would armor bonuses even count then?? I'm sure there are some players who have a house rule like that similar to energy weapons.

But why...? Your Dex just makes you swing faster, not harder. Dex doesn't, and shouldn't, have anything to do with damage. Just because you're faster doesn't mean you hit harder.

And lightsabers don't simply cut through people every single time. Many times they actually just cut long burn marks instead of lopping off body parts...which leads to believe that it DOES require strength to force the blade through flesh.

Hey it was a suggestion.

Anyways I'm sure you could get quite detailed on how they would function if you nitpicked all the traits that you are aware that the lightsaber has. A friend of mine tried that once (back in second edition) but he considered that they should bypass armor and be considered +5 vorpals for critical purposes. Essentially we would run if any enemy came upon us with one of those things.

I like the 2d8 crit 19-20 x3 personally, maaaaybe a natural 20 could be considered sharpness instead. As far as damage I would say it could be either dex or strength, only if the character had weapon finesse for the weapon though.

But I'm not getting using anything like that now. As if I'd give 3rd level players something like that to play with eh?
