Always have a back-up spellbook ready, just in case. Didn't your master teach you anything about being a wizard? :)

See, if you only allowed sorcerers in your campaign, you wouldn't have any of these problems. :p

Would you rather have fireball or restore page in your arsenal?

Well, that depends. Am I trying to fry an oncoming horde of orcs, or am I trying to find a lost treasure horde, the only map of which was almost entirely burned in the Great Fire of 718?

However, a little creativity can turn *any* spell lethal.

a)Burn a book.
b)Feed the ashes to an unsuspecting victim.
c)Cast "Restore Book" and watch him explode from within.

:)

And if I was in a COC campaign, I'd definitely want "Summarize". The SAN loss from the spell would be far less than the SAN loss from reading the book to find out what it's about...hell, I should write up those spells for COC...

But, yes, in general, the library spells weren't intended for PC use. Some people really like 'flavor' magic, others think it's a waste of time. Nothing is going to please everyone, and that's just something I've learned to accept as a freelancer. One person's ohmygodthat'ssocool is another person's manthatsucks. So it goes.
