So Borthos, if some throws a Acid flask at a large creature, the acid from the flask splashed over a larger area???? Thus if anyone within 5ft of a large creature gets splashed, anyone within 5ft of a huge creature, ect...

No Offense, that that just trips over my subspendchtion of disbelief. There is only so much liquid it go around. If it spreads out over a large enough area it will cease to do any splash damage.

The wording is 'Each creature within 5 feet'. Not 'Each creature takes damage for each square it occupies within 5 feet'. So the damage is by creature, not by square. No matter how many squares an ogre may occupy he is still only a single creature. So, the ogre takes the damage once, and once only.

The ogre's buddy Bob the Orc ('cause Bob was there too) standing right next to him can also take splash damage, and if Bob is targeted by another splash weapon then his buddy the ogre can take splash damage from that attack - but each will take damage only once from each single attack.

Yes.

You could come up with some more complicated rules to determine who is hit by splash damage, if you wanted to, but that's the way the rules work in the book.

Is it really going to come up often enough, your players tossing acid flasks at Great Wyrm dragons?

Did you read the spoiler Tanis? that was the part I was referring to.
Yes, I did. I have no problem if a creature it large you can get splash damage once on it. Even if you hit it directly. Especially when you add in characters that add their INT modifier to splash damage.

sigh. look I guess tans my question is this. 1 do you understand that fireballs and splash weapons mostly follow the same mechanics?
2 do you understand how utterly broken I'n terms of game mechanics what you seem to. e insisting on is?

I guess why do you not have an issue with fireball hitting a person once but seem fo feel splsh weapons hitbthem multiple ti es

do you understand that the mechanics you are props g don't follow internal co sistsncy used by the rest og the gam?

Interesting question and as I will be running an Alchemist in a game soon I looked around.

The rule interpretation here seems like the best way to go about it. And the HouseRule for a large or large creature taking splash damage once is also ok, but not sure I'd use it. Wizards would want their fireballs to do more damage too if they caught more of the creature in the blast.

And I added examples though they may not be needed. :)

a fireball would do more damage anyway, regardless of level, as even 5d6 will be more than 1d6+10 at 5th level against a large creature; and besides, Mojo, they do not follow almost the same mechanics. Splash weapons and spells are completely different.
