D&D General Splitting the Deck of Many More Things up

When you say spread, you mean like 3 cards or a more elaborate pattern? Or something like the Journey Spread?
I haven’t fully settled on all the details of how a spread will work yet, but I don’t think I’m going to require a specific pattern, I’m just using “spread” as a flavorful term for choosing and drawing a number of cards from the deck. Right now I’m thinking a spread should probably contain a minimum of 3 cards and a maximum of 9. That would give some of the fun of choosing your level of risk/reward the Deck as written entails, while giving me a few things to work with to build an adventure around, but not too much to handle at a time. 9 also appeals because it’s the difference between the 13 and 22 card versions that the deck as written can come in.

While I didn’t do a spread, I had players declare how many cards they planned to draw (0 to 3) and then I laid out that number face down before them like this:

Player Declares then cuts the cards. Let’s say they declare 3.

I lay out 1 and then put one aside “for the god of luck,” lay out another and then put another aside, “for the trickster gods,” and then the third. And then they pick in order turning over a single card at a time.

Declaring a number but drawing less led to a minor curse.
