Can I mention/ask for sponsors here? On this forum, presumably, if allowed at all? For a rather, unusual undertaking. Moderators, please feel free to contact me for specifics if you need.

Is it elf porn? I only support elf porn. Especially involving cookies.

PS: Try Meta, that's the right place for a meta-issue like this.

Moved to Meta, from Off Topic...

I think it may depend a bit more on details. What kind of sponsorship are you looking for, and what kind of project?

I am a crew member on the viking ship Thor, built by Captain Robert McDonald and thousands of children out of 15 million ice creams sticks. We will be attempting to cross the Atlantic Ocean in the Thor, a feat which has not been accomplished in a viking ship since the vikings did so. An attempt from Norway got about halfway, going east-to-west, before they turned around. Likewise, an attempt from the U.S. got about halfway before they turned around. The entire project, including the building of the ship and the trip, is for the benefit of international childrens organizations. At the end of the journey, the ship will be auctioned and proceeds donated to childrens organizations as well. Imax and Discovery Channel, two of our sponsors, have installed cameras on the ship and will be documenting the entire journey. Completing the cross-Atlantic portion of the trip will add another spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the ship. That's a short synopsis.

The web page for the the project can be found at:
http://www.obvikingship.com
There are various news stories regarding the project as well. I can provide links, though many can be found by Googling 'ice cream ship'.

There are three ways in which the gaming community can help out:

1. Sponsorship of the project itself. For details, please contact Captain Rob at captainrob@planet.pl

2. Sponsorship of my participation in the project. For details, please contact me at aaronblairak@yahoo.co.uk - also feel free to contact Captain Rob at captainrob@planet.pl to verify my participation in the program and slot on the crew

3. Viking-oriented RPG products. I have been gaming for 28 years, and have always appreciated appropriate settings. A viking ship following a viking route seems to be an ideal setting for playing a viking-themed rpg. Though time played will depend heavily on conditions and crew interest, I plan to introduce them to role-playing and run games along the trip. For details, please contact me at aaronblairak@yahoo.co.uk

p.s. Mods - that is the basic post I will be making. Specific details:

1. For project sponsorship, which is to sponsor crew gear, living supplies (food, water, etc) and accomodations along the route, as well as other trip expenses, contact Captain Rob. Also contact Captain Rob for benefits of sponsorship.

2. For my personal sponsorship, monies will be used for travel costs to the launch site, for practice and training excercises up to launch date, and to cover lost income during the trip itself.

3. For rpg products, I will speak at one venue of sponsors choice (they will also have to cover transportation and accommodations to/from/at the venue).

4. For personal sponsors and rpg product sponsors, they will recieve a listing as such on any post-trip publication written by me, as well as on a webpage I have yet to design. They may also mark themselves as sponsors of the Great Atlantic Crossing, and as 'Game Played on the Viking Ship Thor'. Or equivelant text.

Why don't you put a line in your sig, along (possibly) with more detail in a sblock? I think it's also okay to start one thread about this in the OT forum to answer questions and talk about your trip.

If you have a web page with sponsorship details, you can link that in your thread.

When people try to downplay the role of the Vikings in the "discovery of the New World" from Europe I just think of how tough it must have been in those smaller ships to sail and to row across the North Atlantic after having eaten all that ice cream.

Let me know when the website is up so I can plug it on my website, too! :)
