Spring Attack?

This is my question: The spring attack feat (v3.5) on page 100 PHB makes it seem as if everything happens at once. I read it (assumed) it was one action. After using this feat do I have another action left?

I move in, whack it, and move out. Can I then cast a spell, drink a potion, or something that isn't movement?

No, you can't do any of the things mentioned by you after you have used Spring Attack. Note you can still perform free actions, like a quickened spell.

If you attack once and take then your move action, you couldn't do those things either.

Spring Attack simply gives you the possibility to split your movement in two parts, one before and one after your single attack.

You are correct, it is indeed 1 action - a move action.
Which means you move in (part of your move action), attack (your second action) then move back out (completing your move action).

And lest you think it seems underpowered, it is a lifesaver when facing big foes with full attacks that you *don't* want to dance with (dragons, giants)
