Spring Attacking Shadowdancers!

Hide in plain sight lets you hide while being observed. You just seem to fade away. Shining a lantern around isn't going to help unless you elimate all shadows within 10'. Its great if you want to escape, hide and then run for it. Its not so great for in and out maneuvers but with haste you could pop out and then re-hide.

I would agree. Except I would point out there are many, many lightsources that light 15' or 30' radius areas well. Eliminating all shadows in a small area is trivial with multiple magical light sources.

I had an NPC Shadowdancer use this tactic in my game last Friday. Unfortunately the PC Cleric had cast Invisibility Purge (so her Improved Invisibility didn't help) and True Seeing. Hide in Plain Sight is Supernatural, so True Seeing went right through, and he kept pointing out what square she was in, not to mention attacking her himself. She went splat.

Presumably the shadow dancer would be smart enough not to attack anyone who had a readied action, especially an obvious fighter type. If a shadowdancer has an ally, the opponents just can't sit there readying and waiting for the shadow-dancer to appear. Each opponent who is forced to ready against something the shadowdancer fully controls whether to do or not counts as neutralized.

What is this smack about making the check at -10 or -20? The rules clearly state you may move up to your regular move at a -5. You may then attack. You are hidden up to the point at which you attack (unless their spot beats your hide check...). The same for the Rogue (or Monk) who remains hidden and snipes from range . Movement does not negate hide (only makes it difficult). And even if it is better than invisibility it requires a hide skill greater than 20 and a class special ability!!!!! Where as Joe non-sneaky guy can drink a potion and get a hide check at 20 (from invisibility) that requires mere money...

And I think the idea is incredible. You, LordNightshade, are a genius, I wish I had thought of taking Springing Attack with my last Rogue. As it was I ended up with a Ring of Improved Invisibility (which in my opinion was just about as good-not as good as the hide check of 25+ that I could take 10 on and get a 35, but hey you gonna pass up Imp Invis?)
