SR 32 for 37500gp?

Ah, minimum caster level 8th is a little restriction, at least. So no CL 3rd staff of scorching ray.

What would be the attraction of a CL 3 staff of scorching ray? Although a CL 1 staff of shield is something else.

... it is just a buff, the enemy can always just cast dispel magic and remove your shiney buff.
Yeah, but the DC for the dispel check is only 1 lower than to beat the SR with a spell. I.e., 31. 'course, if it's a group, area dispel could easily get one of them in any case.

"Huh ?!"

Remember, SR is a 2 edged sword ;)
True. He can lower it voluntarily but that takes a standard action... :D

Staffs use the wielder’s ability score and relevant feats to set the DC for saves against their spells. Unlike with other sorts of magic items, the wielder can use his caster level when activating the power of a staff if it’s higher than the caster level of the staff.

The big deal with a staff and pricing is that you are stuck at a minimum caster level when you create it. (My memory is that the minimum is 8th level, but I'm at work...) So in general a of cure light wounds is a lot more expenseive (8x I think) than a wand of CLW. And allowing the caster to use his CL rather than the staffs is at best a very small win (CLW maxes out at d8+10 right?)

You'd much rather have the 8 CLW wands with CL=1 in most situations were you would be casting CLW anyways. Total hitpoints cured is 200 on the average vs. 725 average for the staff. And to get that out of the staff you need to be at least CL=10, where as with the wand we are talking anyone who can use the wands can cure that much...

Yeah... some items are just out of wack. Think about +skills items. It's too easy to manufacture a +30 item (always active). I know a few rogues that would kill for +30 on Bluff, Escape Artist, and some others.
Out of curiosity, how much would one such item cost (+30 to Bluff) ?

Just wondering ;)
