SR and energy damage

I recently ran an encounter with a Rakshasa that I thought would be a good challenge for my mostly melee oriented party. The party's single spellcaster opened up with a glitterdust which blinded him (no SR allowed). Then the others all whipped out their energy type weapons (flaming, frost, shock, etc.). I couldn't find anything in the rules to prevent the energy damage from going through both SR and damage reduction, so they carved him up pretty quickly.
I just wanted to verify that I ran the encounter correctly. Comments?

You did as far as I know. Keep in mind, however, that Rakshasas effectively have levels of Sorcerer (equal to their hit dice) so it sounds like you may have been playing him as weaker or less well-prepared than he should have been. Did he know Dispel Magic? If so, he could have dispelled the glitterdust relatively easily, or made himself invisible (so that if he can't see his opponents, then neither can they).

Remember, Rakshasas are smart. And incredibly powerful.

Dropping some fireballs or similar stuff on himself usually... wait, SR doesn't help against his own SR... and he ain't got magic immunity anymore... darn. Dimension Door?

Any Rakshasa should know a spell that protects against energy damage, since that's the surest way to kill 'em if you haven't the right weapons to hand anyway.

And throwing up a fireshield or two would have put a big damper on the PC's fun, in an eyeblink. Go ahead, whack him for 1d6 fire; he'll take half damage (chill shield), and you will take 1d4+7-ish cold damage back. Who's on the winning end of THAT exchange, eh?

Glitterdust seems like a good choice, because it outlines Invisible creatures.
