Stand Up Comedy

We take in a lot of Stand-up. The classics, of course (Cosby, Gallagher, Norm Crosby, Williams, Wright, early Pryor and Murphy), the late-night gods (Carson, Letterman, Leno), the Whose Line teams (both countries) mostly had great solo acts, Izzard is our comedic deity, and the Blue Collar Guys never fail us. The Dennises (Miller and Leary). We have a soft spot and a lot of hearty laughter for a commedian whose name I can never recall: He 's a frequent MDA telethon participant and makes a lot of self-depricating weight jokes.

Attell: Ok, let's do a little role play. I'll be a penguin waiter. Ask me to bring you something to drink.

Audience member: Bring me something to drink.

Attell: I can't! I'm a :):):):)ing penguin! I don't have any hands!

I actually saw him live in San Francisco about 8 years ago. I've loved his standup ever since.

I forget the title of what I have now, but he actually talks about Dayton briefly. It goes a little like this:

I've been to Dayton, OH recently. You know what a fun thing do there is?

Back a bag and get the :):):):) out of town!

I would HIGHLY recommend that you try to rent DVDs or tape of most of these comedians instead of getting the water-downed Comedy Central versions.

Actually when I tuned in to the Insomniac Tour, it was LATE at night and I was just flipping channels past Comedy Central when I was like, "Did he just say :):):):)?" So I kept watching.

Louie Anderson?

The Universe and I also watch a lot of stand up... it's especially nice in our current location b/c we can catch shows at the DC or Baltimore Improv with similar ease. Nothing like seeing a comedian live and in person. :)

George Carlin is one of my all time faves. Chris Rock is great too. John Leguizamo has some moments.

I've seen Dave Attel live at Comedy Cellar in the city.....I expected more from him. Maybe he wasnt drunk...
