Thanks for the download location, much appreciated. :) I've watched the trailer about five times now. I really really hope its good. The last few ST movies have been atrocious. I hear this one has a real director, rather than that cheeseball Frakes.

According to IMDB, it's being directed by some guy names Stuart Baird. His previous direction credits aren't that impressive: US Marshals and Executive Decision (and second unit direction on Ladyhawke), but he has apparently edited a whole bunch of other movies.

Sure, Insurrection may have been a flop, but Frakes also did First Contact, which was great.

One of the problems that Insurrection faced was endless tinkering with the movies by outside individuals. Patrick Stewart (Picard) wanted story stuff changed so it wouldn't have as heavy action vs. drama (drama that was poorly executed by the most part). Rick Berman (the producer) wanted the movie to be much happier and lighter movie after the horror of FC.

This movie has been much more "hands-free" than the last one.

Actually, Jonathan Frakes is a good director. Of course, it helps to have a good script to do so. First Contact was good because of the script. Insurrection was bad because of the script.

Oh boy... if the script review I have read on this movie is accurate, this is going to be one of the worst of them all.

One script review, or are there more in agreement with that assessment?

If it is, then it may be a terrible setback for the guy who has previously written the award-winning Gladiator.

As for the director Stuart Baird, I don't know what to think of him. He has no knowledge of past Trek continuity and was constantly educated by the TNG cast, according to Marina Sirtis ("Counselor Troi").

Of course, the introduction of the mysterious Remans who live on Romulus' sister planet of Remus threw me for a loop. You would think that the Federation would know of them since they have the technology of long-distance snooping. I mean, IIRC, they were able to get an image of Ambassador Spock on Romulus (Leonard Nimoy guest-starred in one of TNG episodes, "Reunification").

I've read a bunch of script reviews and they have been a very mixed bag, but it does seem to go 50%/50% total hate/total love.

It's a common misconception that John Logan (or whatever that writer's name is) wrote Gladiator. That he did not.

He did rewrite it though, to add some extra action scenes into it that Ridley Scott requested as well as shortened and simplified the script.

He's not behind that movie's quality story (which is highly overrated anyway).

The trailer does look awesome though. I hope the movie can live up to it's hype. I'll be seeing it on opening day (hopefully sooner) either way.
