Star Wars action figures as minis?

How well does using the action figures as miniatures work out? Do they come with bases so they'll stand, or do we just have to not shake the table? Will they fit in 1" squares on a standard battlemap, or would we have to do something else?

I'm personally still trying to recover from that horror.

And I thought playdnd.com was bad... *shudder*

I dunno, I could see the usefulness of action figures, but everything that is pure and just in my gamer soul screams that the practice is an abomination.

No way. They're far too big by about 3-4 times. And they usually stand up very well.

Years ago when the original 3 Star Wars movies were released, Galoob came out with a Star Wars Micromachine line. There were starships, vehicles and characters. They're smaller than normal minis, but they came fully painted, and you get about a dozen figures in each pack. They're perfect.

They're a little hard to find now, but you may be able to find them at a Toys R Us, or on a clearance rack somewhere. A couple of months ago, I picked a couple of packs of Imperial Troops (pilots, officers, Stormtroopers, Scouttroopers), about 4 dozen figures in all for about $4.

If I recall correctly, there's a paragraph in the Star Wars d20 book about using action figures as minis. It had some suggestion as to the scale that should be used, since the action figures are significantly bigger than 25mm.

Of course, they could have taken the above-mentioned paragraph out of the new book, I don't know.

You mean, "And they usually DON'T stand up very well".
Yeah I got to agree they are way to big.
But if you are going to use them just increase the size of the grid to 2"x2" squares instead of 1"x1"
So 2" x 2" = 5' x 5' squares.
Hmm... Could be fun if you have alot of Figures.

Wow, nice deal if you can find it.
There is a board game that came out called "star wars epic duels" which I hear is like 20 bucks and comes with 31 plastic (poorly) painted miniatures

Ah, I see it’s on p.131 in the 1st version of d20 SW.
So 1”x1”=2metersx2meters if you use minis and 2”x2”=2metersx2meters if you are using figures.
