Star Wars D20 RPG

not sure if this is the right area, but i couldn't find a star wars d20 rpg forum.

anyway i wanted to know is there any way for the players to suggest things they'd like to see introduced into the game?

I've played a lot of KoToR I and II and amongst the many things i loved about that game was the ability to mod lightsabers, swords, guns and armor.

I'd really like to see that introduced into Star Wars D20 RPG. Unlike in the game however maybe attach certain restrictions to it,

for example
have to be proficient in the use of the weapon your modifing, after all how are you supposed to know what to modify and how if you don't even know how the weapon/armor works.

Also maybe attach a skill to the modification, probable mechanic, which can be done with help from another, example the jedi class doesn't get a lot of skills and but still wants to modify the lightsaber, i think somebody with the mechanic skill should be able to help.

Now I'm not overly sure if attaching a skill should be the rule or maybe an alternate rule, so that the game can continue flowing along instead of the one person in the group having mechanic has to help 4 or 5 other people to modify their equipment.

The other thing i think needs to be considered before doing this is the power that the upgrades would bring, i think some of the more powerful crystals from the KoToR games certainly shouldn't be common and possible not existant and i don't think that a crystal in the lightsaber should add any stats, certain not with out allowing stat enhancement equipment for the rest of the party, but thats another discussion

Anyway thats just a though i had one night while playing Star Wars and i asked the GM if there were any rules for it. please reply and tell me if this is a good idea, bad idea or just something that would need to be fleshed out before consideration

I'm pretty certain we're going to see "item modding" rules for Saga Edition version of the game in the upcoming (and hotly anticipated) Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide that comes out this August. Since SWSE looks to be operating under the K.I.S.S. principle, it probably won't be as complex as what's in the video games, but then again the current Star Wars game is desgined to emphasize the abilities of the characters over their equipment (unlike higher-level play in D&D), so that's to be expected.

There's a skeletal set of rules for item modificaiton in place thanks to the Tech Specalist feat (found either in the archives on WotC's website or in Starships of the Galaxy) that allows you to tweak an item slightly, but not extensively.

If you happen to be talking about the RCR version, then check out the Arms & Equipment Guide, as that has modification rules for weapons and armor, but again nothing approaching the complexity of the KOTOR games.

Being that I'm solidly in the camp of "character abilities > item abilities," I can't say I'd want as in-depth and complicated item upgrade system as what's in the KOTOR games. Not saying I'm against having stuff from video games incorporated into the RPG; after all, I am looking very forward to seeing how the Force gets "ramped up" in Force Unleashed Campaign Guide (whenever that finally gets released).

My group has been playing Star Wars Saga Edition on a fairly steady basis, ~12 hours a session, on Saturdays, for roughly the past few months and although our settings are set before and after the prequels (the campaign I run is 10 years before and the other campaign is ~6 years after) we have a rough system in place for modifying your weapons.

It has added a fairly enjoyable bit of extra fun to the game, in that we've added a new venue for credits to be spent, skills for us to focus on, and tweaking your stuff feels more Star Wars-ish.

Our system is a simple one of adding a bonus +1 to hit or to damage here and there, sometimes some range tweaks, and sometimes increasing the bonsuses to +2s.

I'm pretty sure that the KOTOR campaign book will have a more detailed system, or it should, and that will be pretty nice, too.

thats pretty awesome, I didn't know that KoToR was going to get its own book, I think it certainly will be joining my collection of every other star wars rpg book as well
