D&D 4E Star Wars Saga Edition as preview of 4e?

Dig that crazy jedi. He's got two--coun'tem--two skills. Initiative and Use the Force. That's it.

That's thinking old school, she has two TRAINED skills. In everything else, see has a +3 or +4, don't remember her level off hand.

The character is 8th level, so that's a base of +4, plus any ability score modifier.

I had to clarify over on the WotC boards, and I will here as well. When the article says "resting," it means, "Spending 1 minute outside of combat." It's essentially designed so that Force powers are only limited on a per-encounter basis. Outside of encounters, you can pretty much use your Force powers once every minute (or less, depending on character builds, Force points spent, talent choices, etc.).
I love this feature with all of my body, including my pee-pee.

Actually, I can see how Spellcraft can work in a manner similar to Use The Force, replacing the need for 0-level spells (which would be pure applications of Spellcraft), and also somehow folding the [Reserve] feats into it as well (as trained-only uses?). It needs work, but I think it could be interesting.
I like how you think. Keep thinking. :)

Jensaarai Defender has Senses: Perception+5, but no Perception +5 in Skills.

Deathstar Trooper and Han Solo have the same Perception bonus in Senses and in Skills.

The latter two are trained in it (and hence have the higher bonus). The Jensaarai defender is untrained, so has the raw (level/2 + wis bonus); the stat block calls it out presumably because it is a place where you always put perception skill bonus - eases play.

Well, this particular preview I don't see as being particularly relevent to any putitive 4e of D&D...
No, but I can see how to remodel the fighter class.

The only problem is that I only have one talent tree (Archer) and so far three talents. (I know, I got seven more to go).

Dark Psion caught onto the gyst of my comment...

Otherwise the question of how you get skill training needs to be answered. Han Solo is a 9th level character with 7 trained skills (1 bonus) but Jensaarai Defender is an 8th level character with only 2 (or 3 if Perception should be there).
An 8th-level human character having only two skills (TRAINED skills that is), suggests that some resource has to be expended just to train up.

It may well be the ballywick of scouts and scoundrels to load up on skills, perhaps through talents. Nobles too, I guess (whatever they're for).

What's with no more iterative attacks?

Is Threshold equal to your Ref?

And you get half your character level (rounded down) as bonus damage on melee and ranged attacks (see Han's stats)?

I do like encounter based design (ala ToB) – I can't stand the fact that D&D is designed around this assumed 4 encounters a day malarkey.

All I know is that when SWSE comes out (over here in the UK), I will grab that little bastard and see what I can implement into my D&D campaigns. I'm especially interested in the Condition Track, triple hp at first level (to stop characters going down to a carrot thrown at them by a gnome), the new Skill system, and Defences.
