D&D 4E Star Wars Saga Edition as preview of 4e?

I appreciate your politeness, but I am in fact not focusing exclusively on rerolls. It's just what we have to use as an example (I also addressed the "take 10" ability as well). I get the impression you've rushed through my posts, which would be apropos considering the context.

Maybe. I was responding to your post a page back, and I realize now you've posted a lot more after that.

In any case, I'll just reiterate that I'm all for removing the +2/+2 and miscelaneous feats. Not because of bookeeping, or of complexity, or streamlining*. Mostly I dislike them because I always found them very boring. Wasting a precious slot on something that makes me slightly better or, on something which is catually cool. Not a tough choice for me. :D

Maybe I misread something, but the way force powers were described in that preview it sounds like they made it into Vancian casting; once you use a "power" its gone for the day and you have to rest to cast it again (unless you roll a natural 20 on a UtF check)

It struck me more as Bo9S maneuvers with being able to get them back after resting. Likely a way to avoid Sith "casting" force lighting every turn and also avoid the Self Kill effect the last edition had.

Per the article: "Force-users regain their Force powers by resting, activating special talents, spending Force points, and a variety of other means."

So resting isn't the only way, therefore it's not just like D&D Vancian magic. Sounds to me like it's half-way between that and the 3.5 psionic system, then off to the left a bit. ;)

Couple of things:

Seems mighty swing and rapid shot have the same mechanic. Instead of extra attacks or just raw damage, you gain a +1d8 damage for a -2 to attack.

Armor decreases your reflex save, but I didn't see any benefit. Probably not released yet, but other than the perception benefits Han wasn't getting much for that armor he was wearing:) However, that could be the lack of armor proficiencies.

Human apparantely get a bonus feat or trained skill, heck maybe both.

I like the basics of the use the force skill. Basically it lets force users do the things that all force users seem to do, without affecting the game too much that nonforce users feel left out. The only one I'd be a little skeptical of is the one that lets you determine if an action is bad or not. That could be a little bit strong since you can do it at such a low level.

Check out Han's Damage threshold. It's a womping 22, which seems pretty good to me, given the wookie stat block implied it was Con based. Od Han's special abilities, none of them seem very "tough" related:

Talents: Keep It Together, Sneak Attack +1d6, Spacehound, Stellar Warrior, Trigger Work, Weapon Specialization (pistols)
Feats: Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Quick Draw, Rapid Shot, Skill Focus (Initiative, Pilot), Vehicular Combat, Weapon Focus (pistols), Weapon Proficiency (heavy weapons, pistols, rifles, simple weapons)

I had to clarify over on the WotC boards, and I will here as well. When the article says "resting," it means, "Spending 1 minute outside of combat." It's essentially designed so that Force powers are only limited on a per-encounter basis. Outside of encounters, you can pretty much use your Force powers once every minute (or less, depending on character builds, Force points spent, talent choices, etc.).
