Star Wars Saga RPG: Square Book? WTF

I don't like the square size at all. It is awkward on my shelf and it seems like a sneaky way to boost the page count and make it seem bigger than it is so we don't really think about why it costs 40 bucks when it clearly is not packed as much as the prior books.
Oh, yeah. Heaven forbid you'd allow visitors and guests into your own home to see your horrific ugly shelf. They would gossip about it all over the neighborhood. :]

Wow. However designed the book or decided on the size should get a helluva raise from WotC. There are three threads on this book and this one is longer than the other two combined. For whatever reason, this is definitely a great marketing gimmick.

The size doesn't really prevent scanning though. The dimensions are 9.5 x 9.5. With an extra inch on the top and bottom. You can still scan it and at worst lose the page numbers. So that can't be the reason for the size. Personally, I think this thread right here (and all the others like it on all the other rpg boards) is exactly why WotC did it. That and the 'mistake' of booksellers and bookstore clerks who shelve this one with all the other Star Wars merch instead of in the back with the rpgs.

I don't have my copy yet, but to whoever the designer is (and/or whoever made the decision), good on ya.

It was on the "Notable New Releases" shelf at Borders! Yay!

I'm fine with the format. The book actually fits in the space between my keyboard and the screen of my desktop computer at home. And stays open at the page I have it open. Not too bad.

As for aesthetics: My existing shelves are full. I'll have to start some new shelf, anyway.

Edit: Forgot to say that I don't like how the map is inserted. That's ugly.

Each page has only 91% of the surface area of a standard WotC RPG book. In other words, the material printed on 288 pages would have fit on 262 pages. What a rip off!!!!!

Have you done a word count yet?

I think he was being facetious, though I could be wrong. Damn you inter-tubes and your lack of tonal conveyance!
It's entirely possible. Silly tubes, getting clogged.

But I am still curious if anyone has done a word count and compared it to similar books.
