No, we need triangles! Then we can have...the Tri-Force!

It won't be perfectly round, as you need one common point to bind the pages and covers together. Besides, it will keep rolling off my shelves.

At first I was a little skeptical about SECR's odd size, but that's due mostly to being used to standard RPG book formats for the better part of two decades.

I have to say that I really like the shape of the book now. It can be comfortably held in one hand, pages stay open far more easily without having to brace them with something, which was an issue with other RPG books when running a game and needing to reference a certain page or section during game play.

I also think the shape of SECR was planned so that the book could be stacked on shelves with other non-RPG Star Wars stuff. I've heard that several bookstores have done just that, so it increases the odds that a non-gamer will see the book and possibly check it out.

As has been referenced on the WotC boards, if they can get even a minute percentage of the SW fanbase that aren't non-tabletop gamers (which is a pretty large portion of the SW fanbase) to pick up and support Saga Edition, then it could potentially rival D&D for sales revenue.

Indeed, Borders stuck the book with the rest of the Star Wars books, like the visual guides, not with the rpgs. I can't say it really fit in there either though, most of those books are much bigger.

The Borders near me displayed the book in the "new releases" section at the front of the store. I've never seen an RPG displayed there. It looks great there, since it's the exact same height as all the other new hardcovers.

I love the new format. It may be "nonstandard" size for RPGs, but it's much more comfortable to hold, read, and use at the table. The "standard" size is bulky and awkward in comparison.

The one thing I didn't like was that the map was bound into the middle of the book. Even after it's removed, it leaves a remnant in the spine that affects how some pages at the end of the book lay flat.

Received my copy, and I LOVE its appearance. The point that I really think is spot on after looking at it : 4. It is less intimidating than a full sized book, so good for newbies. Indeed.

I heard they will give you hairy palms and -- if you read them enough -- you can go blind. Merciful Minerva, those heartless cads at Wizards! Fie on them! Fie!

Mine deleted my WoW characters, then wiped my hard drive, slapped my kids, slept with my wife, and then set fire to my house....damn square books....never again

Having actually gotten a copy, I can safely say I love the square format for more than novelty.

In addition to being less intimidating, better to mix with non-RPG books, better suited for a boxed game, easier to keep open and easier to hold, it ALSO fits better into the pocket of my laptop case, something previous RPG hardcovers couldn't do.

Admittedly, I have a huge 17" laptop, so this may not work for others. :(
