[Star Wars] SECR Preview #5 is up

No problem.

Perhaps I'll go back and actually add some worthwhile analysis rather than just throwing spewing negative comments. My initial impression is that they were so concerned with speeding up play that they over-simplified a lot of things and left very little room for variation in gameplay.

So far I've seen no end of potential variation. You still choose your skills, you now get a feat every even class level (in addition to the normal feats) and a talent every odd class level. There seem to be lots more options in combat than just "I stand still and swing at him a bunch". I fail to see how we could have any more variation.

Totally, with all of the feats and talents you will be able to make two Jedi that are completely different, more so than ever – TWF, Power Attacker, Cleaver/Sweeper, Defensive boy etc.

We did all see the same movies right? Suppression fire, burst accuracy...combat realism. This was that series where the largest, best equipped military force in the galaxy couldn't hit a farmer, two non-fighting robots, a space bum and his huge, furry friend, right? Where are the rules that make it easy to leap across chasms while beibg shot at with lasers or giving bonuses to primitive creatures against advanced technology.

I love Star Wars but I've never felt D20 was the right system for it and I still don't. It should much simpler, smoother, easier and fun IMHO.

Not to mention a legion of the "best troops" got their plastoid-plated butts handed to them by a bunch of frakkin' teddy bears.

If the direction of SECR is to move away for "combat realism" for quicker game-play, then so much the better in my book.

You mean like the Jan-Ken-Po System or the Head-n-Tail System?

I prefer the 7-11 System but honestly, they're all crap.

Against a bunch of wind-up toy soldiers.

And even that was only due to plot intervention by a nine year old.

Why am I picturing the GM's 9-year-old son running up and knocking all the droids off the battlemap.

GM: "Um... I guess you guys won"

I've seen that happen courtesy of a cat that jumped up on the table.

Then again, I've also seen enough cases of "Small Child Interference = Divine Intervention."
