There's a bunch of MMORPGs that don't follow that pattern...they're just not very popular, comparatively. A Tale in the Desert, for example, certainly doesn't fit...and City of Heroes is an outlier for that formula, to be sure.

But I think the real issue is that making a Starcraft MMO would likely cannibalize WoW, rather than draw new gamers just to that license. For Blizzard to make a new MMORPG, it would have to be sufficiently different to justify the effort, to preserver their installed base.
