Stargate Atlantis:Season Finale {Spoiler Talk} 25.03.05

True, but the last few episodes of both SG-1 and Atlantis have ended with the sudden quick fix. I was expecting that more than anything.
And I'm incredibly happy they didn't pull a 2-minute warning ending, like SG-1 did.

I'm really, really pleased with Atlantis, and can't wait to see the new season. And I'm very glad that one guy met a Wraith face to face, so he can die. Don't want him back for another season.

I have to admit, I'm surprised that O'Neill would immediately send their only ZPM off to Atlantis on such short notice.

I liked the new Colonel. He came out very jerk-ish in the beginning because he was walking into a combat situation and wanted to establish a clear chain of command. He had no time for niceties. He warmed up as everyone went about their jobs, with superb performances, and became rather likable. But I have to agree with what is above, I'd hate to see him next season, for he takes something away from Shepherd.

The Genii (It seems everyone spells them differently) subplot was...a bit forced, but I felt it belonged. They were the other major villains in this show...I just hated the "The Wraith have hit us so we have nothing more to worry about" attitude. It made little sense and it hurts the Genii's role as saviors to Pegasus as they have wished. I'm hoping it was just a front to throw Weir offtrack.

As to the ZPM, I'm not surprised at all. O'Neill is not a selfish man, and he knew the crew of Atlantis were about to be wiped out. I'm more surprised he got away with sending it, as the decision is not ultimately his.

The attacks on the city were nice, and some great detail on the city. Some of it was a little grainy but very nicely done. The last few minutes, though, did harm it for me, as we can all guess how it's going to be resolved. But if the two part season finale, and the season 2 premiere were watched back to back to back (to back?), it might fit better. And to keep with my other posts this day, I gave this episode a B+.

I felt that this was possibly the best episode of Atlantis yet, which is the way it should be since it is the season finale.

I've come to realize that the wraith are the D&D equivalent of aberrations. They're humans with that crap bug DNA. Its possible that the reason they don't have much depth as a species is because their mindset is pretty foreign to any sane and rational humans. A good part of their thought process might have more in common with the bug they got their DNA from. Making them an unreasoning and cold enemy does add a bit of horror to them.

I have no idea how Spepherd is going to get out of this one. My guess - either the nuke won't work, he'll jettison himself in a space suit before the ship makes its final run, or his ship will get captured by one of the wraith ships before he can blow the thing.

Does anyone else find it disturbing that a ship from Earth can make through the void between galaxies in a few days simply by being powered by a ZPM? I haven't seen anything short of wormhole technology transport anybody to another galaxy in any major sci-fi show before this. I'm not sure its such a good thing as it strains believability to the breaking point. If this is in fact the case, Star Wars, Star Trek, and B5 ships have nothing on the ships from the Stargate universe despite the fact that all three other universes had starfaring capabilities for hundreds or thousands of years longer.

Anyhoo, just some random thoughts.

Yeah, I've got the feeling that the Daedalus has an Asgard type of Hyperdrive on it.

There IS one other way I can think of Sherperd getting out, and that's if the Daedalus arrives in the next few minutes and beams him out.

I found the cliffhanger disturbing,i mean what could really happen aother than a miracle such as the asgard arriving.

The idea however was good, that they have to defend Atlantis with the soul of the machine
being virtually defunct.

The combat scenes were pretty tight,i like the lazre effects, but after watching Clone Wars it leaves you wishing there was some sort of extra weapon to take place, hopefully that will
be the twist that saves Atlantis.....

If you think about it if Atlantis was saved from the Wraith when they submerged for some reason there could be a plot twist concerning their defense other than a major sheild, most appropriatley they should take to the sea again,to find more skifs to use for the chair, before asgard arrives.

I hope we see a more creative escape for Shephard than being saved by Daedalus. But this was absolutely a great episode. But then I guess I like lots of muzzle flashes. :o

My hope for the new season? The Daedalus doesn't make it there. Like its namesake, it gets to close to the Wraith and gets destroyed. This gives us opportunities next season for the Atlantis crew to try and recover the lost equipment & ZPM.

I don't mind it. It is only a few months till the next season, then they'll do a cliffhanger at thee nd of that half and then we are left waiting agian.
