You know, for all the people that seem to have put d20 Modern ahead in the poll, none of them have said why.

What makes d20 Modern better for this setting? I've seen plenty of reasons to choose Spycraft, and none to choose Modern.

I'm not throwing down a gauntlet or anything, I'm genuinely curious to see what makes people say that.

I voted for d20 modern because in all of my experience with it, it pulls off nearly anything i need with minimal modifications. The classes are fairly generic, and multiclassing allows for very interesting character concepts to be used. Plus, nearly anything I can think of, can be fairly easily converted to work with D20 modern.

Then again, i've never played spycraft, so i may be biased.

Just my 2 cents.

I voted for d20 Modern. I think Spycraft would do a very good job of emulating the PCs in Stargate as they are working for the military etc. However, the series covers much more ground than just the PCs including alien races and "magic" like effects. I think that D20 Modern provides a broader base for these other bits of Stargate and is more flexible. This is why I voted for d20 Modern.

I note that with d20 Future coming out, d20 Modern becomes even better to run Stargate IMO.

I chose option 3. I'd recommend Traveller d20. Maybe it's just because I'm more familiar with Traveller, and have used it in the past to do what you are attempting to do: adapt it to play in a specific movie setting.

Over the years, I've used Traveller to run games in many movie settings -- Aliens, Blade Runner (before any cyberpunk games came out), Predator. When I saw the Stargate movie, I immediately thought it would be doable with Traveller.

Traveller has a background with a built-in Ancient race that colonized various planets by moving races around from place to place, very much like the background of Stargate. The Stargates could be Ancient artifacts, used to allow quick travel between their far-flung outposts.

T20 has all the required classes for running a Stargate campaign. You might have to design some new alien races, but you'd probably have to do that with Spycraft and d20 Modern as well.

1) Stargate SG-1 is a military based series which Spycraft already has built-in support for
2) Stargate is mission-oriented, making it perfect for using the Budget Points/Gadget points system
3) Spycraft's chase and combat system are more suited to cinematic action (this one's an opinion, though, so YMMV)
4) Spycraft has more support -- Spycraft Core Book, Modern Arms Guide, Soldier/Wheelman Guide are great supplements to this kind of campaign.

I couldn't have said it better.

Get Shadowforce Archer, as well, and you have your bases covered for magic and Psi.

I would perfer SC, but you have to tweak the "hacker" class to be more of a scientist.

Maybe try the Explorer core class from Hand of Glory?

Writing up a Field Scientist core class would be an alternate solution. Shouldn't be too hard, really; use the Smart Hero/Lara Croft Clone classes from d20 Modern as a model, possibly.

I have read Shadowforce Archer and I like it alot. On the down side that would mean you need 2 maybe three books with Spycraft and Shadowforce Archer to d20 Modern's one.

Leaving that aside I would still choose d20 Modern for its broader base (beyond magic, psi and the military). It has the ability to cover many of those things in SG1 that I don't think Spycraft would do as easily.
