Stargate SG-1: SEASON 9 Premiere..

Ankh-Morpork Guard,

What were the three Farscape jokes?

I far as I could tell there was just the one when Vala first comes through the gate and says something like "I've never seen you before, I'd remember" to Col. Mitchell. What were the other two?

Another was when she said she was pregnant and she was relatively sure of the father...then winked at Mitchell. :)

The third I caught could be taken one way or another. The genepool joke which I also took to be about Browder and Shanks looking alike also struck me as a comment on the Earthling that 'she' encounters looking the same.

Nice ep. The John Crichton Cameron Mitchell character fits in nicely. If only they'd ditch Tapping/Carter in favor of Black/Vala on a permanent basis.

Sacrilege!

I second that. I really, really dislike Vala. I thought the episode last season with her was one of the most stupid (equal to the episode with Sam stuck by herself on the Prometheus).

Overall I thought it was a weak beginning to the season and I hope it gets more interesting over the next few.

I thought this was THE episode where the show clearly jumped the shark. Simply awful. Truly now I can miss Stargate without feeling like I missed anything. After watching every episode up until now, being a devoted fan, GMing the RPG of it, I can honestly say the show is totally dead.

EVERY one of the old cast is now phoning the episode in. The new actors are just Farscape pretending to be SG-1 to collect a paycheck. Nor do I have any interest in an oversexed leather-clad SG-1 member.

And, despite the reaction on this board, the two other groups of friends I have that watch the show also thought this was THE shark jumping episode. One of them was a huge farscape fan as well.

You watch. Mark my words, ratings will dive this season...

Eh, I don't even view it as an continuation of SG-1 as much I consider it a season 1 of a
new show. Bunch of new characters, new plots, new dynamic. All the old threads were
tied last season. It's the first half (or third) of a pilot episode. After all, rumours tell us
that they were in fact thinking of doing a second spinoff instead of a continuation, but
Sci-Fi didn't want to let go of the SG-1 name, so a RDAless season 9 was deceided upon
instead.

The rumoured plotlines sound fairly interesting so I'm waiting it out. It took SG-1 two
seasons to grab me, B5 a season and a half and Farscape and Buffy a season each.
Having an already established universe, I won't be as forgiving of SG-1 2.0, of course,
but I'm not ready to condemn it yet. I have hope.

In the sixth and seventh season of SG-1 I was ready for call it quits. It was getting old,
the storylines stretched (as it turned out, they in fact were stretched, the planned plot
of season 6 got stretched into the first half of season 7 after they got a surprise extra
season... and another... and another...). But after the later half of season 7 and season
8 my faith was restored. Maybe SG-1 will survive. A few years in it yet.

With that said, I can't say I'm not vary of the wisdom of adding Ben Browder to the
cast as a regular. Stuff like that can work if the actor is playing a character different
enough, I like Claudia's Vala, for instance, because she's so different from Aeryn Sun,
but Cameron Mitchell feels like... a slightly less insane version of Crichton, like you'd
imagine him being if he'd never been sucked into that wormhole and joined the Airforce.

I enjoyed it and thought the way they introduced Lt. Col. Mitchell was interesting, especially having him act as a sort of stand-in for the fans by wanting to join the *existing* SG-1 team, not some new version of it. The scenes of him interviewing applicants were particularly amusing, right up there with some of their other good humorous episodes.

I am a little worried that he will turn out to be just Crichton with a new name, but I'm willing to give them a little time to develop his character. The flashback scenes piqued my interest. I just hope they don't try to develop any romance between Mitchell and Carter. I must be the only female fan alive who *doesn't* want romance in her sci-fi! :p

No you are not go to any Stargate forum and a lot of woman agree with you and hate the romance.

I am not one of them though. I think adding romance strengths the characters and gives them more depth. I have always enjoyed the under the surface "love" between Jack and Sam.
And there is no plans for a Cameron/Sam thing there have been spoilers of a possible attraction between the new doctor and him.

Wow. I so diagree. I thought the episode was great and so did all my friends who watch it. I really felt that the show was getting tired. The new characters just brought in a new life to the show.

I like the new General he is neither a Jack or a Hammond clone. I loved the dialogue between him and Mitchell when they first met.

As for Mitchell he is great. I love that he has an enthusim about him everything is new to him he has not become jaded because he already gone through the Stargate thousands of times already.

As for Vala I think she is great and good foil for the serious Daniel.
