Stargate SG-1 {Spoiler Talk} 18.03.05

Carter...err, was...:o , ah...*beautiful geekness rules*
.

I haven't followed the first few seasons of SG-1 so this may be perfectly obvious to some people, but occurred to me that Carter must have been targetted for recruitment into the Air Force and the Stargate program specifically in "real time"...which means "geek" Carter would be very much like what "real" Carter really was before being recruited.

Is her entry into the Air Force "known history" in the series?

Cheers

I'm only really a casual fan of SG-1, but I usually manage to "get" what's going on... I caught the last half of this ep, and I enjoyed it.

I just hope the alternate-timeline SG-1 team doesn't fade out of existence when this is all over. I like them.

When she's introed they say she flew fighter missions in the first Gulf War, so she had been in the regular air force as a pilot long before joining the Stargate program. Remember, her dad was an Air Force general, so she was raised in the Air Force and had great connections.

This also points out an inconsistency in the series. Jack is usually the primary pilot (plus Teal'c due to his familiarity with Gould weapons), but Jack's background is in blackops, not flying. Meanwhile, Sam almost never flies but for some bizarre reason has some extra hand-to-hand skills.

I was watching the early episode where the alternate Sam and Kawalski come through the quantum mirror. Regular Sam mentions that she couldn't imagine not being in the airforce. Also, her father when first introduced mentioned that it was always her dream to be selected for NASA.

I wonder if this alternate-timeline-Sam may have not been as strongly influenced by her father. Perhaps he died much earlier.

Or her brother and father did not have issues and he followed in their father's footstep, not Sam. There was the show were they 'made up' when he was becoming To'kra (sp).

Actually, no, they didn't explain Daniel's resurrection. His choice was to ascend or die. Living again wasn't an option that was given, except for Daniel's speculation that he could do a repeat of last time (ascent/rebirth with no Ancient knowledge).

... well? We have no idea if that's what he did or not. I'm assuming so, but then we're left with his "Nope, wasn't me!" comment about the self-destruct. That's about all we got out of that.

It seemed to me that SG-1 was intended to start the rebellion against RA. Without intervention the rebellion against RA started about 5 years after SG-1 landed. In the alternate universe the dig at the site of the original stargate was also 5 years later.

As for Jack being promoted, it would seem more likely to me he would retire, at least the show kinda of hinted at that.

That was my thought. Nobody knows for sure what happened. Anybody who did is dead (for example, Ra!). Perhaps it's because I read GURPS Time Travel one too many times, but if nobody really knows what happened, then you have some freedom to act.

Now, what they really should've done was drop off Daniel and Teal'c, and then Carter and O'Neil fly off about 50 miles (...or into orbit) and come back the next morning. However, they're still there to provide potential backup. Then, they could've grabbed the ZPM and gone home...or, if they really wanted to be cute, fly to some remote location that nobody's ever going to scan for power signatures and bury it there so they can grab it when they come back.

Of course, you couldn't get a three-part episode out of that, but hey.
