I have to say the Lou Diamond Philips character is already starting to annoy me. The way he's trying to micro-manage what is being done is horrible. I mean it isn't like they can replace Young.

I think the show hasn't made this clear but apparently Young was not supposed to be the leader of the expedition. It was a temporary post for him and Telford was supposed to replace him. So Telford keeps acting in charge because he's supposed to be. His problem is that the just doesn't comprehend the gravity of the situation.

I don't think Destiny would survive Rush and McKay being in the same room. ;)

PHSH! It's a well known fact that McCkay is at the top when it comes to Ancient Tech. The only person that may be above him is Carter and I'd say McCay only has the edge because of 5 years on Atlantis.

The only previously established character they bought over from SGA is Camille Wray. It was pretty awesome how SG:A brought over McKay and Weir, two characters previously established on SG1. I hope we get more background information on Rush that establishes his Ancient Experience. He's the expert, blah blah, but what made him the expert? I want his history with SGC and the program revealed.

I don't think Rush is as creative as McKay. That's why Rush needs Eli.

The persistent sunburns speaks well of their sense of continuity. Little things like that are signs that the people working on the show aren't just phoning it in and relying on the SG name to make them a success. I'm hanging on for a while longer.

This is becoming one of my favorite shows, too. I haven't minded (or even noticed) the slow pace. But I'm more patient with TV shows and movies than most people I know - for example, I loved Sunshine but my fiance was going absolutely insane watching it waiting for some sort of action.

I always liked movies and books where the protagonists had to work out how to survive with limited resources, so I don't find the lack of an antagonist troubling. Right now their biggest enemies are the state of the ship and themselves (fighting for leadership, lack of skills, etc).

I also thought when they were headed to the sun that it was going there for a reason. Nothing else that was done by the ship so far seems to have been an accident (aside from the crew ending up there), and a star seems like a perfect energy source - assuming the energy can be gathered without burning up the crew, of course. And I doubt the ship will just harvest sunlight by itself. The crew will probably need to do something, like deploy solar panels or simply find a way to protect themselves from the radiation while the ship recharges.

I haven't read much about the show outside of these threads on EN World, but I'm fully expecting the first season (or at least the first handful of episodes) to be them getting the ship back into a reasonably working condition, probably with help from the ship itself. We saw them work out the air problem, now they need to find power. I'm guessing next will be water (they mentioned water at the beginning of this episode), then food, possibly in the reverse order. After that they will probably need defenses and weapons, since I'm guessing at one point they will find out what damaged the ship.

And, of course, they need to find a way to control the ship and turn it around to go home (or at least make it dial home), though this last part is probably going to take the duration of the show to figure out and it'll probably wait until they have the rest of the ship in a condition where they will be able to comfortably live there for a long period of time.

This show seems to take things a little more seriously. You don't have the same plot of -- 1) land on amazingly Earth-like planet, 2) meet humans who speak fluent English, 3) triumph over challenge of the week.

Makes me wonder if they are going to ret-con or explain some of the earlier silliness.

The characters are also a lot more flawed than in the other series. Admittedly, both SG-1 and the Atlantis Expedition members were supposed to be the best of the best of the best, whereas these folks are just competent folks who were never supposed to be deployed halfway across the universe.

So far, I've enjoyed it enough to keep watching.

Other possabilities, the ships wants the stellar plasma or antimatter (The Universe, a history channel show, stated the solar flares can create antimatter.) Rush did say that the ship was taking away power from them. It could be that it needs a certain amount of power to activate whatever system it uses to gain more power from a star.

Remember it most likely had done this before. No one can create a battery that will retain power for almost a million years. It makes more sense that the ships has systems to recharge itself without any interference every few thousand years.

On SGA the 3 ZPMs were drained of power after 10,000 years of protecting the city at the bottom of an ocean. I think the ship has a very old ZPM that it recharges every so often. In fact it most likely has 2 or 3 of them and recharges then when the last one is down to a given power level.
