D&D 5E Starter Set adventure duration

Kurzon

First Post
Hi folks. Just wondering if anyone who has the Starter Set and has played through the adventure knows how long it takes to finish it (approximately, of course)? It's been ages since I played D&D, so I can't really remember how long it took to get through an adventure. Though I have a feeling it was multiple sessions of at least five or six hours. Anyway, just trying to figure out an approximate time so that when I'm trying to convince friends to play, I can give them an estimated amount of time it'll take up.

Cheers.

It all comes down to how fast the party moves, what they choose to investigate... whether you add in additional content.

But from all accounts, Wizards have stated in a number of interviews that 4-6 sessions of 3-4hrs length would see the adventure completed. if you're group is experienced and more focused, it could take less time.

It's probably pretty subjective. We played 16 hours over the long holiday weekend, and our DM said we were around 1/3rd of the way through the whole thing. Some of that was rules discussion, though.

It took about 4 hours for my group to make it through the introductory encounter and 80% through the first main area. This included creating new characters using the Basic rules. Things went rather quickly overall, reminded me a lot of the remembered speed of 1e gaming.
