D&D 5E Starter Set Resting

I wonder if the designers realize that by RAW, according to the Starter Set, a first level character can never regain their Hit Die. "At the end of a long rest a character regains all lost hit points. The character also regains spent hit dice, up to a number of dice equal to half of the characters total number of them."

You round down, so half of one is zero. No exception to the rounding rule is mentioned. Its a good thing you level up fast! Because once you spend your level one hit die its gone until you hit level two and take a long rest!

It just depends whether you're a "glass rounded up" or "glass rounded down" kinda guy.

Edit: the last playtest packet I have (September) specifies that you round up in this situation. Probably just an omission in the final rules (or just the SS). No biggie.

Well in the absence of a rounding rule you get 1/2 of your hit die on a long rest and the other half on the 2nd long rest provided you didn't spend your half hit die in between long rests.

Got it? :p

In the event that you DID spend your half hit die, then you would get that half back again.

Hey this could spawn a 1st level adventuring meme- going off half hit diced.

What do you mean by 'spend your level one hit die'?

You spend your hit dice in short rests to regain hit points.

Is there a "always round down" rule in Starter Set?

May be it changed to always round up...:) (This would always ensure minimum 1)

Just a quick search through the rules, I can't find any "rounding" rule at all.

It's on page four under "halving". Always round down.

At any rate, I'm sure it was just an oversight. I just thought it was funny. ;)
Personally I don't care much for worrying about RAW when the direct interpretation is silly.

LOL. Isn't pretty easy to understand the intention? This isn't MtG.

The rules also don't say I shouldn't DM naked. My poor players...
