Starting a 'low magic' campaign for my 10yr old and his friends. Need help

My best solution for low magic setting is not letting full caster to get more that half a character level progresion.

I.E. you can get 1st lvl wizard at lvl2 2nd level at lvl4 and so on. Encourages interesting multyclassing.

Also you can make all magic items/spellcasting cost double money.

Personally, I don't see a problem with dropping tier 1 and 2 classes. If healing is your issue...

* Bards can do it starting at 2nd level (unless you count cure minor wounds), and they get Use Magic Device for wands.
* Factotums can do it by duplicating spells... not sure how that would work in a world that doesn't have the casters...
* Rogues can do it via Use Magic Device as well.
* You'd still have the NPC Adept for heals and can therefore limit the "good" healing to NPC's only, and make the players pay for it like 1e intended. ;)
* If players want a healer that bad, they can PLAY a Healer, fun as it might be...

... and, as a last resort, change the Heal skill to the Treat Injury skill from d20 Modern.

That should keep 'em guessing.
