D&D 5E Starting HP based on Size, Race and Class...

Sounds like a lot of effort for little return. How long do you spend in the levels 1-2. I find that these go by in a couple sessions and then everyone is level 3- problem solved. Have you spoke with your players about a big change like this?

I'm just posing it as question. I don't intend to implement it in my current game. However I would instead offer them choices like this as modular things. Like Lingering injuries, if they wanted there to go relatively "hardcore" with the game.

Pathfinder2 gives starting HP for both race and class, check it out for ideas. I think the fact a race is small means fewer starting racial hp so it works with your idea.

Yeah, it's something like Race + Class for starting HP. So a gnome barbarian might be 6+12, while an orc sorcerer might be 10+6.
