Now - do not get me wrong, I prefer to play wizards, but it seems to me the skill system leans to heavy to INT. As a fix, instead of gaining (SP+INT+RACE)*4 (sp = class skill pt, INT = int mod, race = +1 iff human), what if you gain (SP+INT)*1, race*4, and bonus SP for each stat, but only in skills using that stat. Example, 12 STR, 14 DEX, 10 CON, 12 INT, 16 WIS, 15 CHA, 1st LV fighter human. (Fighter = 2, race = 1*4=4, INT=1) base SP = 7
Then gain 1 CP in skill using STR, 2 CP for a DEX skill, 0 CP for a CON skill, 1 CP for INT skill, 3 CP for a WIS skill, and 2 CP for CHA skill. Note: there are so few CON skills (1), add STR & CON and let these CP apply to skills using either statistic. This does not negate the penalty for cross class skills. PC's will end up with a healthy load of skills at 1st LV, but not maxed out in a few. More likely to have past history skills rather then "standard optimized mix".
