Stat the Iconics

Remus Lupin

Adventurer
Over on the Rebellion Era Sourcebook tread, there is some discussion of the usefulness of having stats for the main characters in the OT in the guidebook (as it stands, they're not there). But I'm interested to know how people would stat them up on their own, using the Saga Edition sourcebooks.

So, a few ground rules:

1) You can use any sourcebook currently in print for the Saga edition.
2) The character must adhere as closely as possible to their canonical representation in the movies
3) You can provide multiple sets of stats to represent changes from movie to movie, but be clear which stats go with which movie.
4) Characters are limited to the OT for this exercise (not the EU or prequel trilogy), but any and all named characters are up for grabs.

Well, I think the point was to provide snapshots at different times than the core rulebooks did, and to incorporate material from later rulebooks. The original trilogy characters statted in the core book are

Boba Fett and Anakin/Vader as of Episode IV
Palpatine, Obi-Wan, and Yoda as of Episode III
Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando, R2-D2 and C-3PO as of Epsiode VI

Plus, I'm interested to see what people come up with, when they've got the whole array of books in front of them. This stems from a discussion on the Rebellion Era Sourcebook thread about whether such stats are really useful. I'm just interested in seeing what YOUR Han, or Leia, or Luke might look like.

They're only useful if you want your players to kill / get killed the plot-protected movie characters.

Old Game Master truism: "It has stats. They can kill it."

If I needed any of those characters, then I'd pull numbers out of my head (Attack bonus, damage, defenses, needed skills) and wait until I got to a point in the story where a death might be meaningful.
If the character was an ally, then I'd roll a couple dice and declare how many stormtroopers / thugs / bounty hunters they killed that round. And all they would do would be to help out some in fights.
If the character was an enemy, I'd either have some arbitrary threshold of damage before the NPC "dies" or I'd wait until something cool happened and then get them off stage.

You bring in Darth Vader for story advancement and to give a sense of threat. Not so your players can Destiny-Point-critical him into chopped liver.

Have fun.

Fear of loss is the path to the Dark Side. I would discourage players from killing Vader, but if they are hell bent on it, I certainly won't have a better game by arbitrarily preventing them from doing so.

You're very likely correct, that it won't be much fun. You're absolutely correct if it feels arbitrary when it goes down.

I'm just saying that having stats for the movie characters implies that you're going to use them like any other NPC. And, like any other NPC, the party has the option of trying to (and potentially succeeding to) kill a character central to the Star Wars plot line.
If you, and your group, are comfortable going that route then have fun. But if you're not willing to unmake Episodes 4-6, or it would shatter your players' ability to enjoy the setting, then making those central characters killable is a very bad idea. Ideally, they would be busy doing their thing "off-screen" while the players have the limelight for their own adventures.

I disagree. Statting them is necessary. If you don't wish to make those central characters killable, the important thing is not to use them.

Well...I know this isn't what you asked for OP but its been bothering me enough to do something about it when I saw this thread, Jedi Academy Manual has stats for some of my favorite characters...but none of them look right to me. Not to threadjack or anything but I decided to remake Kyle Katarn as Mace Windu to Luke's Yoda or Vader to the Emperor.

Anyhow I figure that being mentioned as an elite trooper in the notables and having a long history of ass kickery and no real jedi training that he wasa a self taught elite trooper whose Exotic Weapon Mastery Talent worked for just light sabers and heavy weapons.

Took me far longer than I meant for it to take getting it made. Lemme know what you think. Enjoy!
