State of the world

Man, I live in the US and that's never happened to me.

That's why you shoot back.

You have never been jumped by strangers while waiting on a train?

I don't need to shoot back. I shoot first.

nope.

I've been in plenty of fights, but I always saw them coming, and it was always 1 on 1. i've never been "jumped." by a group of guys.

Of course I have lived most of my life in the country too. Nashville is the biggest city I've ever seen, and I've lived on the outskirts of it for a few years. Other than that I've lived in small towns. Usually, if there is a gang around, me and my two friends are it.

I'm puzzled at the posters implying that this sort of thing is normal. Where I live, unprovoked beatings happen, but it is rare enough that it makes local newspapers, and neither I nor anyone I know personally has ever been involved in one. Is it really so bad that "you have never been jumped by strangers while waiting on a train?" can be a serious question?

Happened once 10 years ago (I was 17 at the time)... after a party in a local and rather sleepy village. Two of the local hard nuts liked going out and beating up kids. I was unfortunate enough to be walking down the same road. Ah well.

Police knew exactly who they were. Their other hobby was throwing bricks throught their neighbours window. A woman officer from the local police station. They beat a few other people that night - including nearly losing 1 kid an eye.

That kid was the local magistrates son, so when they got to court they really had the book thrown at them. Seemed the system really had it in for them that day. Both ended up with some fairly serious jail time - actual bodily harm was the charge, I think.

Guess the moral is the system works, as long as the victims are important enough. :D

Still, it was good to see!

Hopefully looking over some CCTV footage tomorrow to work out what went on, so I might find out what happened, at least?

Seriously, I've never had this happen to me, and if it did, I'd probably be so surprised that they'd beat me unconscious before I realized what was going on.

ONE guy I know got a knife pulled on him while waiting for a bus. But, he was a fairly good martial artist, and he kicked the crap out the poor mugger.

It's not. It probably wouldn't make the papers unless someone were hospitalized or killed, but it's certainly not normal. I've personally never been physically attacked by strangers. One of my co-workers was, though, but he's the only person I know personally that has had such a thing happen.

So, A&E is Britain? I'm guessing you didn't wake up on a cable TV channel...

Accident & Emergency. EDIT: As several people have already said.

Accident & Emergency. Roughly equivalent to your ER.

A&E is also note coloquially as 'casualty'.

There is a long running BBC TV called Casualty, which is roughly the british equivalent of ER the TV programme. IMO, the US version is better.

I've been attacked by a stranger once.

It was in a nightclub that, I discovered afterwards, had a reputation for being a violent place. I wasn't exactly 'beaten up': the guy only hit me once, but it was enough to leave me with a broken nose and needing stitches and some serious dentistry.
