Status of Edge of the Empire?

The last thing I've heard about Fantasy Flight Games's Star Wars game (Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny) was moved under the umbrella of Asmodee.

However, I haven't heard anything after that.
(Likewise for Genesys.)

The Asmodee store shows that you can buy some of the products for the game. But there's very little (if any) news about whether the game is actively being supported.

Have any of you heard more recent information?

If I recall correctly, the people working on Star Wars and Genesys were all fired when they put the products under Asmodee. I think they mainly still sell the older stuff because they still have the minis license?

The lead designer of Genesys is heading up the Cosmere RPG for Brotherwise Games now, and I think a lot of the other personnel are FFG former employees who worked on Star Wars and Genesys.

Well, I looked into it a. It more, and happily it does seem that the Gensys system is still being supported, the new "Arkham Horror" RPG is using thst, and theybhave some new Twilight Imperium and Midnight themed books. No new Star Wars on the horizon, though it is still in print.

My group is actively playing Edge of the Empire as we speak.

Just in the last 2-4 months, Edge Studios issued reprints of all of the core 3 books (EotE, AoE, FaD). They are available on Amazon now with the Edge Studio imprint, and 3 different local FLGSes in my area (I just moved from Seattle to Salt Lake City a few months ago) have had the Edge Studio reprints in stock.

As far as supplements, that's a whole 'nother ball of wax, so to speak. Inventories on supplements are going to be pretty sporadic for probably the remaining life of the license.

Which, ultimately, is the real question --- how long does Asmodee / Edge plan to keep the license? If the license is set to expire in say, 2027 or 2028, how much motivation do they have to renew the license, and if they're not going to re-up the license, how motivated are they to keep books in print?

Lots of unknowns, but for now at least, access to the core books isn't an issue.

Star Wars and the other FFG RPGs was moved to Edge Studio. That said, it seems the Star Wars RPGs are in maintenance mode: they reprint things every now and then, but they don't seem to be doing anything new with it – which kind of makes sense, as those games are basically done. Each of them has a core book, one splatbook for each career, and some additional sourcebooks and adventures. In addition, there are a bunch of books collecting things from across the line (vehicles, weapons, gadgets), as well as a series of books for other eras than the classic trilogy era the core books focuses on. I guess there's room for more era books, particularly if they go into Legacy media, but overall the game line seems done.

There's been a lot of Star Wars material since the last time they published any new for that game though, so I feel they certainly could do more with the line.

The real issue as I see it is that they very clearly indicated future plans for the game when they transferred it to Edge, but it's been years at this point and nothing beyond limited re-prints. This reads as bait and switched to me.

I doubt that Asmodee is going to do anything that will not earn them a nice margin. They had reams of debt piled into them and Star Wars would be more expensive to maintain as a licensed product.

I would expect the license to expire and another company such as Hasbro to attempt to get it back.

A Star Wars 5e property on Sigil would be a potential money maker.

The unofficial Star War 5e game on the interwebs does that job for me well enough. I'd just as soon keep Hasbro's grasp away from anything else I'm invested in.

I wouldn't mind seeing another try at using the system for Warhammer.

I feel like what FFG Star Wars did was an improved version of what the (I think) 3rd Edition of Warhammer was trying to do.

With some of the kinks ironed out and an upcoming show (produced by Henry Cavill,) it could potentially do very well.

Pretty sure FFG/Asmodee/Edge lost the license for Warhammer/GW stuff quite a few years ago. Some of the stuff they released using GW IP got re-released using their own IP instead, like how the Warhammer Quest card game got reskinned as Heroes of Terrinoth.
