Status of Edge of the Empire?

I'm honesty surprised the FFG/Edge license doesn't specify that they have to put out new supplements at some regular interval. It seems clear that as soon as the license expires, a new Star Wars RPG will wind up elsewhere. I'm not sad about that--I've played this version, and while I thought the production values where great and it had some interesting ideas, I've always found it kinda clunky in play.

I'll be interested to see where it lands. The WotC version wasn't bad, but it didn't quite feel right (though a version using 5E rather than 3E might be better). I think Savage Worlds could replicate the feel of the West End version pretty well, but I'll bet the license in a pricey one for a small company. I'm not crazy about someone like Modiphius, who has so many licensed games already, adding it to their roster. Still, I imagine its a few years off.

Likely, it's part of the overall "tabletop games" license Asmodee/FFG holds.

Yeah, they are actively producing miniatures and collectable cards for Star Wars, just keeping the older RPG in print is probavly all they need to do for their overall gaming license.

I never got into the FFG version of Star Wars. Tried to read the rules a few times but it just didn't stick with me. Still, I think the universe has a lot to offer TTRPG-wise and I wish either Edge would do something new with it, or hand it over to someone else. It's kind of a shame.

I highly enjoyed Edge of the Empire (hence my interest).

If there were a middle ground between Genesys (which has nothing pre-built) and Edge (which has things pre-made) that used the same system for a generic sci-fi game, I would be interested in it.

To me, Edge often felt like playing a Firefly game set in the Star Wars universe - and I mean that as a compliment.

Well, they actually are publishing thst now, Genesys material for the Twilight Imperium boardgames universe, which Asmodee owns outright:

And a Genesys version of Lovecraftian horror with Arkham Horror:

And a few others, like Midnight.

I'm pretty sure Arkham doesn't use Genesys, but a bespoke system instead. At least it comes with a bunch of regular d6es instead of fancy Genesys dice.

Most FFG FPGs don't use custom dice... all 4 End of the World and the Fireborn are d6 dicepools (and not the same more); the original Twilight Imperium was a d100 roll; the Dark Heresy and the various FFG written 40K RPGs also were percentiles. (Remember, DH was transferred to them, not their own creation.) Oh, and the D&D 5e setting book purportedly doing Rokugan, and the 5E Midnight.
Depending on counting mode, that's 6 of 9 or 14 of 19.
