Stephen Colbert

My love of TDS knows no bounds!

Colbert is brilliant, no question, but I think he plays it too safe. For I-don't-believe-he's-going-to-do-that, can't-turn-my-eyes-away-from-the-impending-train-wreck, Andy-Kaufmanesque comedy, I'll take the fearless Rob Corddry every day and twice on reruns, with Bob Wiltfong running a close second.

For better or worse, Stephen is getting his own show and leaving The Daily Show. I like all of them ... Samantha Bee least. Ed Helms' bit on the restoration of Speedos to Jersey Beaches last week had me in tears.

I think Colbert is fantastic, but Lewis Black is the TDS staffer who really speaks to me.

I've been watching TDS since I first went to college in fall of '96 when it was still run by Craig Kilborne. He was funny, but the current Jon Stewart era has been far better. Colbert is really good, he's got a great "straight man" delivery as he tells the most outrageous satirical stories with a completely straight and sincere face. "This Week in God" is certainly a high point of the show.

Yeah, I watched it when Kilborn was doing it and I remember feeling annoyed that they got rid of him for Stewart; I didn't think he was suited for the role in the way Kilborn had been.

Heh, I couldn't have been more wrong about that one.
