I'm not sure of what Mr. Jackson did or didn't say. What I do know is that he isn't a stupid businessman. He's probably seen d20 hang on long enough that he doesn't have to worry about it disappearing overnight. He's probably also seen d20 eat into some of his GURPS sales (speculation: I have no supporting data, just a strong feeling). Why not make a buck with it?

Maybe he doesn't like d20 and maybe he does. The bottom line is that the money is still green when he takes it to the bank.

How many FLGS owners hated Pokemon, but still sold it because it sold well?

well, here's one data point. :p

i used to be a rabid GURPS fan -- it was my system of choice; i didn't play or really buy anything else for years. (my GURPS collection numbers over 80 books.)

since 3e came out, i've bought one GURPS book, and that was for background material to use in a d20 campaign...

That's been more or less my experience as well. Since I can alwaus USE a D20 book, but GURPS is just for background or fun, so....

Bump. Anyone going to subscribe? Pyramid has had some D20 stuff, but relatively not very much. It comes out every week as well.

Me, I just want to find out what's happening with Eden's Fields of Blood Book of War.

I've already subscribed and it wasn't a comp sub either. Rate is low, $20 for a year. Little more than Pyramid, but I honestly think I'm going to get much more out of it. Especially with Matt doing some work there. I don't like all his stuff. I thought Depths of Despair needed a full silver bullets to put it to sleep, but I do like his ideas.

It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. All those nice GURPS sourcebooks, d20 compatible. Hmmm....

(wipes drool off chin)

I agree 100%. SJG products are great. Historically, their setting support has been lacking, but their system support is great. If they can dual stat, which I don't think is going to happen, it'd be great.

I don't plan on supporting SJGames

I understand it might be good, and I have a huge amount of respect for Chris Pramas.. but I don't like the SJGames attitude.

Thats pretty much it.

I went to Mid south con and Jackson was a guest of honor. Let me first say I like GURPS. If I had my way that is the game I would play but my group likes D20 and I think so much of a game is on the quality of the GM that the system you use is secondary.

Anyway, Jackson said, "Real roleplayers don't use d20." He then joked that it was perfect for his Munchkin Game. If that comes off as arragant to you it did to me as well

It is very strange to me that he would then go and start a D20 magazine. What does that say about his magazine?

Steve has a, uhm... ...different sense of humor. He loves the strange (as you can see in the Daily Illuminator on the SJGames site), and is a big fan of pulling legs. He's also open to making a buck, and if a D20 zine pulls in potential customers, all the better.

By the way, if folks do decide to subscribe and help playtest new stuff, be sure to follow the playtest boards' posting rules. Makes liFe easier for everybody. And expect to do a lot of work.

One more thing, chill. The Munchkin D20 Players Handbook is a joke. It pokes fun at the way some people play. It is not, in any way, shape, or form a slam at D20 fans. Take a look at SJG's Munchkin's Guide to Roleplaying, or the company's Munchkin cardgames. Steve Jackson and crew love to have fun with the more out there segments of this community. Including fans of their own products. A recent Murphy's Rules featured a Game That Should Not Be Played, GURPS Rifts D20.

So calm down, unclench, take a deep breath and let it out slow. And the authors of heated replies will be entered into a contest. First prize is a week with Emily Bronte-saurus. Second prize is two weeks with Emily Bronte-saurus. (Ask Chris Pramas about Emily. He once went on tour as manager of a punk band rather than spend an afternoon with her.)

To put it simply, don't take Steve Jackson all that seriously. Besides, he's got the Crepuscular Crud and could use some sympathy mail. You can reach him at: sj@io.com . Be nice.
