Steve Jobs takes over as WotC CEO!

People are already complaining about new versions... imagine yearly releases. Oh, and just wait next year we'll release "Snow 4E" with very little changes! You need to activate your 4E core books at a local WotC store to use them but only with more expensive WotC dice that frequently roll blanks forcing you to reroll. Attempts to use with different dice will fail and lock your books. Then they'll lower the price of the books by half but then charge more for D&D:I (oh, and its mandatory and all supplements are riddled with DRM) so that you pay more in the end.

Yeah, that's exactly what I want to happen!

I said he was good at what he does.

That's true... if you want WotC's primary job to continue to be a reality distortion bubble and tons of hype but not getting products into your hands. For example, Apple should own the notebook market... guess what, they're 6th in notebook share with 5% of the market.

:-)

I just really despise those commercials. To me they come across as smarmy and condescending.

Those commercials just help reinforce why I wouldn't touch Apple if it were the only computer in existence. Apple is a smarmy and condescending brand, with all their cutesy little names for things and counter-intuitive interfaces.

Worst. Computers. Ever.

Being that Steve Jobs is an egomaniac, a prima-donna, and takes the credit for all of the hard work done by thousands of Apple engineers; no I would say he would be a terrible person running WotC.

In some cases, having a strong leader can really help a company. Corporations ruled by committee and middle men lose focus and it takes someone with vision to set trends and force the company kicking and screaming down the right path. But WotC does not seem to have that problem.

If a man like Steve Jobs ran WotC he would cut all products that did not make money hand over fist and try to reshape the remaining product into his vision. 5e D&D would be a collectable trading card game with MMO tie ins.

Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't an anti-WotC rant, nor an anti-4e rant, this is simply a state of the union address. I see WotC on a slippery slope at the moment that reminds me of TSR circa 1990.
I'll take Hyperbole for $1,000, Alex.

*sheds tears of joy*

Oh, my... I never would have expected to see so many people in one place with the wisdom to renounce Steve Jobs and call his products what they are...hyped up garbage with a shiny luster. I...can't remember the last time I truly felt this so phulosophically close with such a large group. Thank you all, I went in this thread expecting to see a bunch of mindless zombies chirping off on how apple can do no wrong, as I experience everywhere else, and was peasantly surprised to find mature adults. Thank you, and I sincerely mean that, for restoring some faith in humanity in me.

All that being said, I WOULD like to see Steve Jobs take over at WotC. Why? Currently, I like many others are in a bit of an emotional vice, not liking 4E, but not wanting to turn my back on the company that owns the D&D brand I grew up with. But if Steve Jobs was in charge, my emotional attachment to the company would vanish, like magic!

Not for him - I'm sure it would be a huge cut in pay. :)

Actually he only works for $1 a year. All of his pay is in stock options.

But it is curious how Jobs was ousted from Apple then reinstated with a new backer - Bill Gates. Gates at that time was head of research & new product technology and it seems that Apple started to release much of what revived the company afterward (iPod).

A more exciting read is how Jobs secured more in the animation film industry and how he has more shares of a certain powerhouse than any other.

If I were a 3.5 paladin Jobs would be one of the first in my gaze for detect evil.

So you mean I haven't witnessed w/my own eyes Jobs making all his engineers at a keynote stand up to accept a standing ovation for their brilliance? Nice to know I was imagining things. Steve may not be the nicest guy and his RDF is 2nd to none, but he know how to turn companies around. Witness Apple and Pixar and Disney ;)
